On a daily basis we ignore a very harsh reality. That reality is something simple but not fun to think about which is why ignore it. Every day we get one day closer to the day we die. This is as true for a 7 year old as it is for a 70 year old. Sure unless the 7 year old has some horrible illness or some awful disaster they have a lot longer to live then ten the 70 year old. Of course that is true but I didn’t say anything about how much time was left in total did I? No rather I said every day we life is one day closer to the day we die. In other words in some very real ways life itself is a terminal illness.
The second part which is driven by the first part is, everyday we are becoming someone new whether we want to or not. I led off with our mortality to drive home how precious every day we do that is. So now back to the question that this episode is all about…
Who will you become and more who are you becoming?
And this is a non optional reality! You are becoming someone different every day you live. Ignoring that reality inevitably leads to a negative output. Today we talk about first recognizing this reality and then about harnessing that reality to not only become better but more of who you really want to become.

- The expectations others had for your potential were likely the highest the day you were born
- Your expectations for yourself were likely the highest when you were a kid in the “imagination years”
- By the time you were able to do all things necessary to take care of yourself, those expectations were lower, why
- At some point you have to realize that you either become more than you currently are or you decline
- The mistakes and failure of your past are actually your most valuable assets and yet most people wast them
- If a negative past is so bad, why do so many people embellish their past hardships or even invent fake ones
- Ignoring your past is like building a huge data center, paying for its upkeep and never using it
- We are hard wired to understand heat and stress hardens steel and more heat tempers it
- You should never worry about if you would trade your hard past, nor should you want to
- If you are doing great things you are leading, if you are leading others follow you
- Leaders should be judged by the quality of those they lead, specifically those they attract
- Never set your sights too, ever. You owe the world and yourself more
- If you improve yourself by only 1/2 of 1 percent a day for one year it is a 517% ROI ,10 years is 80M%
- Even a quarter of a percent .25 would be a 149% ROI, 10 years is about 900K%
- Even .1 percent 1/10th of a percent is an annual ROI of 44% and over 10 years is 3,740%
