Today’s episode was originally, Episode-1712- Finding Your Version of Freedom and was first published on Jan. 19th, 2016.
The following are the original show notes from that episode.
Yesterday was honestly a bit of a clunky show for me. Sorry if it seemed that way, you can’t always bat 1,000 you know. Anyway it ended up in a good place, it forced me to ask some hard questions and to realize a few things should be discussed here. Specifically in regard to freedom. Things we discussed many times but now we should discuss with a direct personal application.
Some things we must understand about freedom in order to have it
- First – no one can define freedom for you nor can you for another. This is actually anti freedom.
- Secondly – what some would consider total freedom others might consider total slavery and vice versa.
- Third – if you have to withdraw to a place you don’t want to be in order to be free you are not free.
- Fourth – if you are to have other people in your life your freedoms must be balanced with theirs.
- Fifth – if you are to have freedom, others must be able to do things you don’t like, do not approve of, etc.
- Six – the current state of the world is not freedom, so you will have to fight for every piece of it you take back, or you have to be strategic. There is no third option.
If the fourth sounds like socialism to you (as in the statist way) check your perception bias at the door. Here I am talking about close voluntary associations like a spouse, a family or perhaps may be an intentional community.
Join Me Today to Discuss…

- Focusing on morality over facts and issues
- Focusing on morality over feelings
- Building teams, coalitions, co-ops you name it
- Following the lead of the Free State Project
- Not going away quietly all the time
- Yes going away quietly at times
- What you have to ask yourself
- What do I actually want, do you even really know
- What do I have to sacrifice for that

Reading the lines on the picture, it reminds me of the quote from the UK film, “Trainspotting”:
“Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a f–ing big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of f—ing fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the f— you are on Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing f—ing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, f—ed up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life…”
This one is timely. We’re wrestling with this very issue right now.
