The keys to cooking amazing food for low cost are good fundamental techniques, stretching more expensive items, buy in bulk, do all your own processing/butchering and cook with left overs in mind.

I get about 25 containers of halt pint containers of hummus that were use as samples once a week from the local farmers market for free. This would normally go in the trash.
