Today is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes. Today’s episode was originally Episode 747 and Aired on Sept. 22nd, 2011 and was titled One Nation full of Ants. The notes below are the original notes from that episode.
We had a blast at the Denver Self Reliance Expo and can’t wait to meet more of you guys at the Salt Lake City Expo coming up on the 7th and 8th of October. During the show we released our new T-Shirts, the back of which have a flag where all the stars are replaced with ants, under the flag is the slogan, “One Nation Filled with Ants”. You can see an example of this here.
We also had this message on our banner at the booth. I would say the reactions people had to it could be broken down into three groups.
- About 50% of the people got it, instantly.
- About 25% got it when asked, “Remember the story of “The Grasshopper and the Ant”.
- About 25% had never even heard of the Grasshopper and the Ant”
The last group really shocked me, I simply could not imagine that 25% of people in general let alone 25% at a prepper expo would not be familiar with the old fable. Overall this is what inspired today’s show.

Thanks for that!
You’re the shit. So thankful I found your podcast. My wife and I are about to buy property and begin our homestead. I value the episodes few episodes i’ve heard so far and can’t wait to keep listening, especially about finding the right property/BOL. Very helpful!
Do you have an episode purely about how to make your homestead profitable? I’m hearing bits and pieces but a whole episode would be gold.
~OR~
Do you have an episode about designing and building the ideal homestead home? I listened to your tiny home episode with Chris and it was very helpful but we are doing 1,000 sq. ft. In your experience what is ideal?
Thanks Jack for teaching all of us how to live better and change the tragic direction of our current global society.

Blast from the past for real! One of my favorite, back-to-basics, inspirational episodes.
In kindergarden for my youngest son’s first year, the teachers were realizing that kids do not know the classic nursery rhymes. My children are getting older but bringing out the old stories like the Ant and the Grasshopper is a wonderful idea. Modern children’s books are great, often so beautiful, but the old stories about our culture are important.
