Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day are CZ Garden Net Pot Cups.  Let me come out of the gate with this fact, there are cheaper net cups, but none actually cost less.  How is this possible, we are back to always be frugal never be cheap.

CZ is well priced but top quality, the price to value ratio we always look for.  Most cheap net cups won’t last a season before becoming brittle, cracking and falling apart.  Conversely I have had some of my CZ cups in service for 2 seasons now and they are still like brand new.

They come in many sizes but my two favorites for general use are 2 inch and 4 inch.  When it comes to growing smaller greens and starting plants for transplanting to other systems (soil or hydro/aquaponics both) I go with 2 inch cups.  When it comes to larger long term planting in hydro/aqua systems with plants like tomatoes and cucumbers I go with 4 inch cups.

Additionally when I did my greenhouse based pipe system built on 4 inch pipes I used 4 inch cups.  That system was designed to grow strawberries which didn’t really do well in that location but it is bang on for growing lettuces and argula.  So how do I manage that?  I take my plants in their 2 inch cups and put them cup and all right into the 4 inch cups.  It works fantastically and eliminates the need for any leca or other media.

In the end use any size that is right for your needs but trust me go with CZ garden for this component of your systems.  Rather than the cost of an item when you buy it always calculate the lifetime cost and better yet, right now the 2 inch cups are on sale!  Last by not least, my favorite starting medium (rapid rooter plugs) fit in a 2 inch net cup like they were designed to, likely because they were.

P.S. – Note this 4 and 5 inch cups are sold out, if you need them this season keep an eye on them.  This is why you should stock up on long term items like this.  More people then ever are growing food at home and that will only increase this year.
