The Duck Chronicles Episodes 21 and 22
On The Duck Chronicles Episode Twenty One – 50 Ducks on the Run we have a lot going on at the homestead and we show you exactly what the effect of our ducks browsing is. This is something you should do when grazing any animal to really know how much of the vegetation is being grazed.
The ducks also really seem to like the wood chip sheet mulch for just hanging out and resting.
I also talk about stripping leaves on fruit trees that don’t go fully dormant. Something I learned from Kuffel Creek Apple Orchard. I planted a lot of new trees this weekend, several apples, two Whitney crab apples, a few cherries and some jujubes.
In The Duck Chronicles Episode Twenty Two – A Cold Day for Me and You, our spring like winter has come to an end for a while. Today we are in the high 20s and we got rain right before it dropped below freezing. So we have both and icy and muddy mess today. The removable ties were so frozen I just cut them off to get them out today.
The babies did fine with the cold though. The adults are loving life as they love this weather. You will note some of the young girls managed to get filthy in the mud as well.
I have made some progress on our hugul berms, getting cover crops in for the spring. I also had to separate Buddy and Joe from the ducks because Buddy was beating the heck out of them when they went into the shed. This means I need to accelerate getting the new holding area done.
It’s amazing how fast they grow!

I’m seeing that kind of growth on the grass and clover in my yard too. I just don’t have the livestock to knock it down. We’re at the same latitude and share the same weather. Seeing the trees and your projects progressing reminds me that I need to make time to get out and plant. At least I got most of everything pruned back at the right time last year.
