The Duck Chronicles Episode Nine – Eggs at Breakfast Time
Today in The Duck Chronicles Episode Nine – Eggs at Breakfast Time we take a walk outside to see how the babies will live and be managed once they become adults. The area they are in now will actually change once the chickens are reduced in number to zero. At that point they will move into a 12×16 house and much larger holding area of close to 1/10th of an acre.
As you can see they lay eggs pretty much where they feel like it, some inside but many outside. To me this makes keeping them in a holding area necessary. Otherwise it would really be an Easter Egg hunt daily.
As to the numbers on the babies, they are as follows today. They went from a 20 duck average of 4.165 to 5.33 ounces. That is 27.97% of body weight in 24 hours. This is continuing the patter of a huge day followed by a big day followed by another huge day, here are the running numbers on % of body weight gain rounded off.
- Day One Gain 29%
- Day Two Gain 17%
- Day Three Gain 30%
- Day Four Gain 18%
- Day Five Gain 28%
I also apologize for the airplane noise I am pretty sure Lockheed is scrambling jets based on my video activities!
Jack they must be afraid of your growing airforce. Lol
Jack, a little late on this, but I was just catching up on all the episodes. How did you use to euthanize the one little duck that didn’t make it?
Enjoying these. You almost have me convinced to get ducks sooner rather than later. I see you have a couple of geese also?
Here in the frozen northeast, I have to gather the chicken eggs first thing in the morning, or they will freeze before I get there.
I enjoy your video on the ducks Thanks
I love watching the Duck Chronicles. It is amazing how fast they grow. Great job Jack. Keep up the awesome work you do for all of us.
