Today we look at homesteading and mainly producing your own food on small lots.  I would define this as 1/20th to 1/4th of an acre.  The average home being built in America today is sitting on about .11-.16 of an acre, or about in the range of 50-60 feet wide by about 100-120 feet deep. Lot’s of people dream of owning more land at some point, but the truth is more land is more work.  Even with three acres I am mostly focused on about 3/4ths of an acres on my property adn put 80% of my effort into about … Continue reading →

So today I stopped by the TSP Zello channel to say hello and ask for topic suggestions.  There were some great ones but most required me to spend a few days to put together, this one though I can get ready for in about an hour, so it is our topic of the day. I also like this topic because this is a common problem I hear about from many people.  I want to grow food, I really think my front yard is best but I live in an HOA and the blue hairs will get me, etc.  Additionally growing … Continue reading →

Special Report – Today I start out with a special report on Vladislav Davidson and the Regenerative Leadership Institute.  I only did this report due to so many asking about their PDC that you can take for “free” at OpenPermaculture.com.  My report is not very positive, it isn’t the type of thing I like to do but in this instance it was something had to do.  Simply due to the fact that many of you have asked about this PDC and the people behind it.  If you are here just for that it starts at 7:25 and ends about 19:10 … Continue reading →

In the 70’s there was a very large back to the land movement that just didn’t last.  Many are calling the current boom in gardening and small livestock keeping something similar, but that is quite short sighted. To begin with the current boom in such things really began about 2006 and was in full swing by 2008, it is now 2013 and things are moving faster then ever.  That is a total of 7 years so far, the 70’s back to the land movement only lasted about half a decade before fading into oblivion. So what is different this time … Continue reading →

Victor Alfieri lives just 17 miles from New York City on a 1/4 acre lot but he hasn’t let that stop him from being a modern homesteader.  For Victor It all started after hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast when he started to see things a little differently.   While he wasn’t directly effected by the hurricane it got him thinking about being more prepared.  He began researching the aftermath and to him there was one thing that stood out. No one was prepared not the general public, not the local government and certainly not the federal government. Then a … Continue reading →
