Anton van Vuuren was involved in various technology roles which brought him to the USA in 2015. After meeting his wife, at her behest, he opened a restaurant serving South African foods. Then in 2020 Covid caused mass shutdowns and Anton and his family had to diversify what the restaurant did in order to make ends meet. They expanded on many fronts but Biltong manufacturing was one of the key elements that helped them survive though 2020 as a business. Today Anton joins me to discuss making traditional South African biltong.  We also discuss how Anton used this niche product … Continue reading →

Anton’s Land of Biltong Joins the MSB

The Survival Podcast Posted on July 24, 2023 by Jack SpirkoJuly 24, 2023

I am really excited to formally announce this partnership.  Anton’s Land of Biltong now offers 12.5% off all orders to MSB Members.  While I did mention it on air last week due to the schedule with the 15 year celebration we didn’t formally announce it until today.  When Anton reached out the first thing I did was ask for samples of his product.  Upon receiving them I was instantly all in, these folks do it right. Land of Biltong set out to make Biltong that is not like the rest. They start by making every effort to source the finest … Continue reading →

Today I want to discuss curing meats.  To do that we are joined by Ken Strayer a member of the TSP audience.  Ken has been curing meats for a few years and did a great job of answering my questions on the basics of curing meats. He was however, extremely efficient and his knowledge is limited to a few types of cured meats so the interview as only about 28 minutes long.  It was 28 extremely informative minutes but my shows are generally at least 50 minutes to an hour in length. So I am adding a bonus segment on … Continue reading →

Well the time is approaching rapidly that we will be in the full swing of fall harvesting and even planting the fall gardens.  With temps are or near 100 in many parts of the nation today it may seem a long way off, yet it isn’t, cooler weather and the bounty of the garden and the field are just around the corner. As we turn our focus to harvest both of garden and game it is a good time to discuss what to do with it all.  You can only eat so much fresh, your neighbors will only smile about … Continue reading →

Making Biltong Video Series

The Survival Podcast Posted on October 21, 2010 by Modern SurvivalJanuary 1, 2011

No show today folks as I have to take my wife to the dentist.  Nothing major but they do have to sedate her and therefore she can’t drive afterwords so I am choosing today to release the long awaited video series on biltong.  I talk about it all the time on the show, now you can see how to do it step by step. The method you see me use is slightly different from some others I have seen online.  I have chosen my recipe and method from the writing of Peter Hathaway Capstick who spent half his life living … Continue reading →
