Straw Bale Garden Started in the Quail Aviary
After having Joel Karsten on episode 2444 of my podcast ( http://bit.ly/5-22-19 ) I decided to trial a small straw bale garden this year to see how well it really works. We also take a look at my exploding wicking beds and the new pond’s progress as well. Charlie joins us at the end in his favorite pose. He was very full on quail eggs as I had just let him find all the hard to reach ones before starting the video. Yes Charlie is permitted to go into the quail aviary but only with supervision.

Jack, I’ve done straw bales to add to my garden and had decent luck with them.
When I did them following his book, I thought the wire binding should be on the sides and the cut side facing up so that it helps hold water in the hollow part of the straw.
Looks like it is reversed in your video, maybe it doesn’t matter that much?
look forward for your comparison in your aviary
Yea a few people have said that in the YouTube comments, I will flip them next time I add fertility.
Might be interesting to only flip half and see if it makes a difference.
Btw, not being a straw bale nazi, genuinely interested in the results
