Kelsey Wigans, Seed to Table Garden Manager at Gilmore City-Bradgate Elementary School in Iowa, is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian with a passion for agriculture and hands-on learning. She believes in the importance of understanding food origins and nutrition.

Recognized as the 2022 Iowa Conservation Education Coalition Teacher of the Year, Kelsey provides unique, hands-on experiences for Kindergarten to 8th grade students. Over seven years, she has managed operations producing goods valued at over $300,000, including diverse produce, cut flowers, raw honey, and more.

Kelsey’s impact extends beyond the school, with numerous innovative programs and fundraisers serving as community outreach. Despite budget cuts reducing her role to a 0.5 FTE, she remains committed to her mission.

Joining us today, Kelsey will discuss the funding structure for her position, the projects she managed, and their impact on the community. Although her contract is ending on June 30th, she is developing her blog, The Iowa Family Gardening Homestead, and planning a homesteading school. Despite challenges, Kelsey is determined to continue her work independently, ensuring her passion for agriculture and hands-on learning continues to benefit her community.
