Ramiro Romani of Above Phone and Take Back Our Tech joins us today to discuss phone privacy and how you can break out of Apple and Google Prison with by using “degoogled” phones with open source operating systems. If this all sounds complicated, don’t worry Ramiro makes it all easy to understand.
Ramiro is a technologist, activist, educator, and entrepreneur who sacrificed his corporate career to work on meaningful social movements. As a core member of movements like The Freedom Cell Network and The Greater Reset, he’s helped grow their websites to hundreds of thousands of people while ensuring user’s privacy is protected.
Since then he has began educating and assisting others. Really bad episode. The expert knows almost nothing. He did not mention the intell management engine. It bypasses all encryption and security measures. Or that the NSA loads their kernel on your phone, taking complete control of your phone. He does not cover sub-audible device communications. You need to only buy coreboot laptops. Put grapheme os on your phone and never plug a sim card in it. Did not mention that where a VPN is based is one of the most important factors. Most countries do not have good privacy. Get swiss based VPN providers. Switzerland has the best privacy laws.

Ramiro here. Thanks for your take but it does sound like you are parroting things you’ve heard from others without doing deeper research.
You are mixing up a few things. These phones do not use Intel processors, they use Qualcomm or Google’s custom chips.
Also, there’s has not been any documentation, study, or evidence around processor firmware and the data they allegedly gather. I’ve heard what you’re claiming a hundred times, and have never been presented evidence, or a study, everyone is making guesses.
The potential exists, but without knowing how it works you’re chasing ghosts.
Feel free to link to studies for any of the things you are claiming. All of the studies we shared in our presentation are repeatable, you could do them at home to see the results.
I’m more concerned about things we can observe and dealing with them in a simple way. People get stuck in a fearful mindset because intelligence agencies have a wide arsenal of tools – this doesn’t mean that they’re using all of them on the entire world at the same time. The threat model of a regular person shouldn’t be to defend against sub-audible device communication, it should be getting off the centralized tech services that keep them in a tracking ecosystem.
On VPNS –
VPN jurisdiction doesn’t matter as much as you think. For one, the PRISM leaks point to agencies like the NSA mirroring data passed over subsea cable.
Secondly, many countries (including Switzerland and the United States) have MLAT (Mutual Legal Assurance Treaty) agreements each other. This allows for an easy way to foreign agencies to request data out of country, and commpanies aren’t required to inform the user of the investigation.
As you can see, there’s nuance to it – hope you learned something.
Anyone reading it with a desire to learn likely did. Johm who seems to struggle with spelling his own name correctly most likely did not.
Not to mention he uses a certain email service that is literally built to spy on users. ?
Hey, I’ve been following along with TSP since a few permaculture and privacy crypto queries in 2019, and following along with TBOT and Ramiro the last 2 years on TG. Very happy to see mash-ups like these happen 🙂
Hoping these discussions inspire preppers, who are typical anti-tech, to eventually get more tech-oriented as we’ll need to utilize open-source projects to keep our communities robust and competitive vs the lizard overlords who want us to eat za bugz. It also just makes our lives easier, folks.
On the topic of a parallel internet mentioned: I haven’t seen Qortal come up as a topic yet from either Jack or Ramiro. I’ve been playing around with it for 2 years. It’s a decentralized internet project built on it’s own blockchain. The expansiveness of the project is too much to explain here, but it’s really coming together now in 2023. Recently Mike Adams of Health Ranger Report just got his devs to build an app on it this last month and is moving his videos/publications there.

I’m trying to get caught back up on TSP podcasts. I went to https://takebackourtech.org/tag/os/ and looked at the posted recommendations. I have used and like the POP OS, but its focus isn’t on security. It is a more refined version of Ubuntu. I am presently using Parrot https://www.parrotsec.org/ and I really like it so far, but takebackourtech apparently is unaware of this OS. It is actually designed for security, and I would like reading the rating from a security tech guru. I also heard mention of a linux OS from this company, but I didn’t see it being mentioned at the site. All I saw was pre-existing OSes that are not even trying to be any more secure than Ubuntu is.
