Gasification is an old technology, with a history going back as far the nineteenth century. Before the dominance of liquid fuels, gasification was a technology widely known in Europe. In fact, during WWII, over one million automobiles were fitted to run on wood gas, primarily due to the shortage of petroleum-based fuels.

It seems gasification emerges from obscurity whenever there is an energy crisis, and because of its ubiquity, and low barrier of entry, it has become a favorite to those interested in alternative energy, preparedness, and sustainability.

This presentation is designed to introduce the viewers to the technology, and present a path forward for those who wish to incorporate it into their energy package. We will be discussing the science, the variations (biomass vs. charcoal gasification), the feasibility and/or practicality—based on your climate, biome, and context—and the holistic strategy to make it all come together.
