Improving Pasture for Grass Fed Beef – Miyagi Mornings Epi-129
If you like these videos you will likely love my podcast and all my other stuff you can find at http://tspc.co
If for any reason the Odysee video above does not play well for you, the back up YouTube version is here.
This came from a question both about improving pasture for grazing and what to do along the way to keep cattle fed. I really do not like this question as written though, read it and if you understand what a ruminant is, you will quickly see why….
How do I improve pasture to raise grassfed beef? And what grains are best to use in the meantime? I have about 10 acres I can do rotational grazing on. The problem is that it has been just lawn before I moved in 3 years ago. Now I have been running a couple steers around here but the pasture isn’t growing high enough quality to sustain them on grass alone. I provide a very minimal ration of grain now.
No disrespect to the person asking the question but in my view the answer to how much grain should a cow eat is none. Other than a stray seed head bovines would eat almost none in nature so why should be feed it to them. I am also not a cattleman and so I can only advise so much here. I am going to send this video to Darby Simpson of the Expert Council and his answer will either be on this or next Thursday’s Expert Council Podcast.
