Mental Sovereignty in The Golden Age of Propaganda – Epi-3817

Note that title of today’s show is “in THE golden age of” not “in A golden age of”.  That was a conscious choice I made because I do feel today is the greatest age of propaganda humans have ever lived in.  Not because those in power are any worse than at other times, simply because the tools they have available to them are superior to even a couple decades ago.

Today we are going to take a look at the last 150 years of the development of tools which enable propaganda.  We will talk about how those who use propaganda are always seeking their own goals and agendas, not your own.  We will talk about how understanding this technology can help you free yourself from control mechanisms you seldom even realize are at play.

From blatant blasted propaganda on the legacy medias news, to paid content placement by influencers, subtle changes in AI chat bots across time to good old fashioned yellow journalism newspapers and online articles, nothing is devoid of propaganda.  These things however are also tools.  Ways to stay informed, ways to be more productive and even of course ways to be entertained.

Yes you can partake of TV, movies, news sites, social media and use AI while remaining mentally sovereign.  The key of course is our old friend pattern recognition.  Today we break down the main methods of delivering propaganda to the masses and how to recognize the patterns so you can use them without giving up control of your own thoughts and actions.

  • How do you use all these tools and remain mentally sovereign since not using them is a disadvantage
    • First on any issue or claim do you care and if so why, if not stop wasting your time
    • Always seek the best counter argument you can find, seek the counter argument opposing your bias
    • Remember always a tool that can be use, will be used, and tools are often best fought with the same tool
    • If you could not act as an “attorney for the opposition” your opinion is not your own
    • Limit total consumption with a hard fixed schedule for all forms of content, “touch grass”
    • Assume emotional manipulation first, information second, strong emotion often is a red flag
    • Separate signal from narrative, facts inform, narratives drive response
    • When you see the synchronistic pattern, manipulation is highly likely at play
    • Ask who benefits if the majority accept the narrative as fact
    • Avoid identity attachment, when your identity is tied to a position you lose perspective
    • Filter between informed and activated, information expands options, activation shrinks them
    • Silence is almost an option, you don’t need a take on everything
