Jonathan and Ashley and their 4 children traveled the country for 5 years, renovated a vintage Airstream to fit their needs for off-grid camping, and set off on an adventure that would forever change the course of their lives. To do this they sold their house and all their belongings in exchange for a life of adventure.

After 5 years on the road, they found an off grid property that they wanted to call home in Southeastern Arizona. This brought a host of new challenges that came with learning how to homestead, let alone homestead in the high desert. Completely different plants and animals than what they were used to in their hometown of Knoxville, TN. But they are up for the challenge. They are currently living full-time in their Airstream while they literally build their homestead from the ground up.

And I do mean…from the GROUND up! They are building their home and buildings from the earth on their property. Hyperadobe/earthbag construction. All this while tending to their new animals on the homestead which include chickens, rabbits, goats, pigs, cats and dogs. Their adventure is anything but normal, but they are a family of hard workers willing to put in the time it takes to make their off-grid homestead dream come true.

They join me today to discuss the challenges of moving to an area of the country that is unfamiliaure full, new animals to deal with like rattlesnakes, scorpions and tarantulas. Having homestead animals for the first time. Building their homestead from the earth on their property. Dealing with limited water resources. All while living in 200 sq ft vintage Airstream as they transition from full-time travel to homesteaders.
