I want to lead off today and explain that I am talking about individual leadership vs. corporate or political leadership. In fact it is the herd that follows such so called leadership. Additionally Monday shows are often about current events and while today’s is not, it does apply to them.
Consider that right now there are honestly two herds in existence. One herd is blindly pro-war in spite of that particular demographic having called for less conflict for at least a decade. They fall in behind one level of political, media and corporate leadership and toe the party line. The other herd is full of doom, gloom and “we can’t win” thinking.
I experimented with this a bit over the weekend on social media. For instance one person speaking clearly of the war in Iran said, “The hardest part of a quick 2 week ground operation is the first 20 years”. I simply responded with, “In 6 weeks if we are not engaged any longer will you admit being wrong?” A simple question which stated in no way my opinion. Simply a question, since you are making such a definitive statement, will you admit you are wrong, since it will be clear.
The shit flinging monkeys, including the original poster, didn’t let me down. Basically all shouted some version of “will you admit when you are wrong here”? My response was only that I made no declaration but sure anyway if we are still fully engaged in 6 weeks I will admit my pointing to a possibility was wrong. Of course name calling ensued, etc. I must point out, none of these people even know my position on the entire thing. The herd has one move, follow the next asshole in front of you and stay together. The herd always thinks it is following leadership, when in fact the herd is always being well, herded. Herded by a rancher not a leader.
The pro-war faction is just as bad here. Claiming “Trump freed Iran”, when there is no evidence of any such thing. They too as a herd member follow the asshole in front of them. As to that term think of a herd animal like a cow, imagine it following a cow in front of it. Then laugh because it is the only way to stay sane in this world we are in.
Again though this show is not about the Iran war or any other particular current, future or even past crisis. These are just examples for the sake of clarity. No, today we dig in to understand the difference between leaders and herd members in general. Or more to the point, predators and prey. Which do you wish to be and which are you becoming more of?

- My social media experiment and what it teaches us about herd thinking
- What if your are wrong and the Marine Tard
- Consider predators in groups like wolves or lions vs. the life of herd animals for just a moment
- When you are presented with any binary choice, your first reaction should always be to come up with 2 more
- We have been taught exactly backwards about leadership in so many ways…
- We are taught first to follow and then to lead
- We should be taught first to lead ourselves
- Then taught how to identify good leaders
- Then taught how to become good leaders
- We should be taught to beware of and question incompetent leadership
- This all must, of course, be tempered with some humility, you don’t know what you don’t know
- Characteristics of good leaders…
- They carefully consider all options, given the time available
- They listen to the concerns of those they lead
- They consider 2nd, 3rd and 4th level effects
- When crunch time comes they act with full confidence
- They focus first on themselves but sacrifice for the team
- They almost always emerge as “inner leaders” of a team before becoming official leaders
- They always lead themselves before leading others
- Leaders spot innate leaders quickly and seek to develop them
- They rejoice when a team member reaches or exceeds their level of leadership
