Cool Kids Book from a TSP Member
Adam Snyder reached out and sent me a copy of his new kids book called, “If You Want to Keep Some Chickens”, I found it very cool and wanted to share it with you. It talks about housing, brooding, getting eggs and even cooking with them. It also talks about making compost, feeding them, problems that happen if you don’t control them and more.
Getting kids involved early is a great way to help them become well rounded and self sufficient adults. I would say this book is ideally targeted at young kids. Say 3-6 years of age. It is perfect for that age range, possibly a little older depending on the kid’s attitude and interest.
It looks like this will be the first of many such books by Adam. You can find it and more information about he and his family at KidSteaders.com
If you want to pick up a copy on Amazon you can do that here.
Note that while it is a short book, all children’s books are, it does a good job of covering all the basics, not so much exactly what to do but how to think about it. So if you are getting chickens and want the kids involved it will help with talking to them about their responsibilities and what the birds will need. It would help if you already have them too, especially if a young one wants his/her “own chickens” or to start helping.
No matter what it is a cook book and picking up a copy or two will help a community member get off the ground with a new venture. Also I am sure if you buy direct or on Amazon Adam would love a review on Amazon, as that helps new authors a ton!

This sounds like a cool book. my 2 year old nephew loves books and feeding my chickens when he comes over. hopefully this is something that he’ll read and as he gets older will plant some seeds
I hope he loves it!
Hi Jack, thanks for the awesome write-up. This is exactly what I wanted the book to be and I hope it is a good resource to the community.
