Special Notice – I want to clear up some confusion. For a long time I have recommended the Chard/Carry Smart Pressure Canner and Cooker. That caused confusion as Chard consolidated under the Carry Brand as they were actually both brands, (think say GM and Chevy). Not long ago Nesco bought out the Cary Company. This canner/cooker is the exact same model the only thing they change is the name they print on it.
Price Alert – This item is on sale today (7-28-21) for 38% off the retail price and selling today for just 80 bucks. If you have had it on your wish list today is a good day to buy it because I have never seen it dropped this low before.
Every day I will bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.
Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the Carry/NESCO NPC-9 Smart Pressure Canner and Cooker
Long ago I recommended the PowerPressure Cooker XL, as it was the only electric canner guaranteed to be safe for pressure canning by the manufacture.
The Nesco is better in so many ways, while also being guaranteed safe by the manufacturer for pressure canning, it has several additional features that makes the PowerPressure Cooker Obsolete in my view…
- The Nesco allows you to can quart vs. pint jars. In fact with it you have the ability to can, four quart jars, six pint jars, eight jelly jars or ten half-pint jars in one batch
- It also does a separate water bath or steam function for water bath canning
- It uses true petcocks and hence can be used at higher altitudes then the PowerPressure Cooker
- It has twenty built in safety features to ensure your safety.
When I first brought this product to you over six years ago it was constantly sold out and would go up in price as quantity dropped. Nesco seems to have stabilized the supply and n they are readily available with free shipping at a price in the mid 120 dollar range and they seem stable at that price.
Finally every time I have spoken about this item the Canning Police have descended upon me saying it is not safe for pressure canning because some website that is 15 years old says there is no such thing as an electric pressure canner. This product again has been around for over 6 years now. At this point 100s of thousands are being used to pressure can food, no issues have ever popped up and you know if there were any the Canning Police would have told me about it. Also Nesco or Carry would have been hit with a class action law suit so huge they’d at minimum be in Chapter 13.
Again this canner is honestly safer than an old school canner because if everything isn’t right it just won’t even start the cycle. It even auto vents the air before sealing itself off. There are again 20 built in safety features. If you don’t want to use an electric canner don’t but you can stop worrying about botulism. This tech isn’t new, it also survived a corporate buy out, it is safer than a lot of things you use every day.
Lastly I did a podcast a while ago about the advantages of electric canning, you may want to give it a listen, you can find it here. In any event give the Carry/NESCO NPC-9 Smart Pressure Canner and Cooker and one more time, yes it is the exact same model as the Carry/Chard Labels that proceeded it.
