VEVOR Stair Climbing Cart – Item of the Day
Today’s Item of the Day is from Vevor; it is their Stair Climbing Cart, specifically the one rated at 550 Lbs of capacity. (Remember to use code VVPROMO to get 5% off anything you buy from Vevor with my links).
Special Note – Please note that I mentioned the 550lb rating in the video but that it is specifically rated at that amount for flat surface use, the rating for use when climbing stairs is much lower at 330 lbs when climbing. Personally I think I’d stick to a lower number all around given my opinion after using it a few weeks with loads ranging from 50 to about 250 pounds. It didn’t blink at 250 but my gut says 550 is an over statement. I would call this a damn good medium duty dolly that can climb stairs and curbs really well.
Let’s start out with some cautions here. I love Vevor and have a great relationship with the company. When checking into this model, I found overall good opinions by those who have used one. That said, I have seen some other similar dollies by Vevor with less than stellar reviews. So unlike other reviews where I say, “get the one that works for you at this price,” I am going to steer you to the most robust one they have.
I have literally seen reviews where people pushed some of the lesser ones to the spec’d limit, and in one instance, the bottom simply snapped. Based on how those ones are built, I can see why. I think this model is an example of going back to the drawing board and using the right material in the right place.
The entire item is made with a solid aluminum/steel alloy that I would say is more aluminum than steel. The place that bears the greatest load is where the axle brackets bolt to the frame. The brackets on this model vs. others I have looked at are cast and solid metal. Quite thick, and while I am not sure I’d try moving the full 550 rated weight with it or the 330 up stairs, I am quite convinced something else would give first.
The other location that will take the brunt of the weight will be the right angle where the tray bends and slides under the load. Again, some of the lesser models I can see why this may fail. Here again, Vevor used a solid piece of cast metal, and they include reinforcing components (see the video) that slide into the frame when you bolt the axle brackets and tray onto the frame.
So there you go, it seems this is a product Vevor had to go through a few versions of to get right, but they eventually did so in a very solid way. Now let’s talk about this: first, every prepper should likely own a decent dolly. They excel for moving things around, including many things that you can’t really move well with something like a wheelbarrow or a tow-behind cart.
This one takes things to another level with the “star wheel design.” This makes it fairly easy to move items (within reason) up a flight of stairs as the wheels roll over and catch the next step, doing a lot of the work for you. Even if not moving items up a full staircase, this is handy as heck. You know those curbs, those step-ups at parking lots, that step up in all doorways, etc., this thing goes over them like they are not even there.
The best news is it won’t break the bank. With a retail price of only 140 bucks, it is a great deal, and right now (6-26-24), it is on sale for only 113 right now (7-11-24) as long as you have an account with Vevor. Then, on top of that, you can use my code (VVPROMO) to take another 5% off, bringing the cost down to only about 108 bucks for a really great hand truck that won’t give you hell every time you need to get over a curb or up some stairs.
Are there any negatives? In a way, yes, and in a way, no. You know all those design changes I mentioned, solid cast pieces, all aluminum alloy, etc., I mentioned in the beginning. Well, some of the lesser models also folded up when not in use; this one does not do that. Which means it stays full-sized all the time, making it a bit bulky when transporting in, say, the back of a truck. The trade-off is it isn’t that big and, being mostly solid aluminum, it will never rust and is lightweight. Something you can easily pick up and carry with one hand.
So, check out the VEVOR Stair Climbing Cart today and see if it fits your needs. Again, all preppers should have a decent dolly, and one that climbs stairs and hops curbs is simply a better way to go.
