Stainless Steel Insulated French Press by Secura – Item of the Day
Pricing Alert – The 34 oz version of this item is on sale right now for 6% off. They also have a 50 oz version which I have personally standardized on that is marked down an awesome 30% today. These are a great last minute gift for the coffee or tea lover in your life. I personally do recommend the larger one. It will make 3 big cups of coffee or about 5 standard sized cups. We have two and use them ever day.
Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.
Today’s TSP Amazon Item is the Stainless Steel Insulated French Press by Secura. We have been using the glass version by Fine Dine for a long time and I still really love it and have no plans to get rid of it. The way I found this one is first of all I have been kicking around the idea of getting a second one for a while
Some time ago realizing I was drinking far too much coffee I went cold turkey on a coffee fast for a few months and drank only tea. I got rid of our coffee maker and when I started drinking coffee again I went to a French Press. It makes better coffee and it takes a little effort to make the next cup or two, so it naturally slows you down on consumption.
Thing is some times Dorothy wants to have more coffee and I am ready to switch to tea. Some days she wants coffee and I only want tea. So a second one seemed like a good idea. Additionally as we were discussing this Dorothy suggested that we should take a French Press on our vacations, because it makes better coffee then “the shitty coffee makers in hotel rooms”. Yes that is a quote!
So my thought was why pack a glass container in luggage that you know will be thrown around by baggage handlers acting like a bunch of gorillas. So my quest for a good stainless press began. I found the one by Secura and despite a few negative reviews, with over 4,000 reviews, 4.5 stars over all and a B grade on Fakespot I figured it was worth a shot.
Up front the only negative comment that I sort of agree with from some of the negative reviews is the top doesn’t “seal” tightly. It moves around a bit, you know what though, it just doesn’t matter. It seems some of these folks want a press to hold in heat like a Yeti Thermos or something. The truth is you only want to leave coffee or tea in a press for so long anyway. In any event I made a press full of Earl Grey yesterday. I brought the press into my office and when I poured the last cup about 30 minutes later it was still very much “Captain Picard Hot“.
Again I think the few negative reviews are by people with either mental deficiencies or perhaps unreasonable expectations. Like I said some say it doesn’t hold in heat very long, they are just wrong they also may not know how to work a lid. Seriously! On the lid there is a gap for pouring, by turning the lid about 1/4 turn it closes the gap. Ya think some of this special children might have a hard time figuring that complex concept out?
That leads me to a nice little feature. They put an arrow on the top so you know where the gap is, nice since you can’t see into the press, well unless your vision can see though steel like Superman. It is kind of low vis in the early morning though especially before your first cup of coffee. To remedy I took a thing of Dorothy’s nail polish and made a bright red dot where the arrow is. Take that, low caffeine impaired morning vision!
So if you want a press which way should you go, the Steel One from Secura or the Glass One from Fine Dine? It is really personal choice, both are great. The steel one won’t break if you drop it or travel with it and holds heat better. The glass one in my opinion looks better and you an see how much is left in it. With the Secura you really can’t tell because the thing is so heavy duty if feels full even when empty. In the end, get the one you like, I think you will be happy with either of them.
Lastly one cool thing for some of you is this press is available in the 34oz version I bought and in a larger 50oz version if you have a large family or entertain guests often. So give this press a shot and I think you will be happy with it.

A French press is great. I own one and the coffee tastes better. I am not a coffee snob yet even I can taste the difference. Unfortunately, I own the glass version which makes it vulnerable to breakage. Under normal circumstances breakage is not much of a problem. I can order another one, but in the midst of a zombie apocalypse or some lesser catastrophe, breakage becomes a big problem. That is why having a steel or plastic French press makes more sense.
Note that the reason the coffee tastes better is because it is exposed to coffee grounds for less time than drip or peculated coffee maker methods. If you leave the coffee in the French press for too long, it will become bitter. I simply make enough to drink at the time. If I want to keep it warm longer, I pour the coffee into a thermos.

SHINING & SLEEK FRENCH PRESS It’s the best non electric filter I have ever seen or used! I can brew a nice flavourful coffee or tea in this French press, and enjoy my favourite cup of latte or lemon tea! Compact & Easy to Clean! Will recommend buying it!
We have been using this press for 3 or 4 years every day. It is smaller than some, but that means the water boils fast, pour it in, set clock for 4 minutes and pour into our old school thermos. On the road, Pick up a LEXO coffee cup tumbler thing, pour the coffee in there, it soaks up the heat, cools the coffee to the perfect drinking temp in a couple minutes and holds it for several hours.
I bought this press, and it’s been fantastic! Thanks for recommending it!
I also have thyme and gunpowder green tea in my 1qt. I use
3/4 tsp. Thyme
2 tsp. Gunpowder green tea.
AND available in the 17 ounce size for those of us who imbibe just a bit at a time! I see a new accouterment for my greenhouse/she-shed/Happy Mother’s Day in my future…
PS The 17 ounce is not on sale, but still, for about $20, still a good deal.
started drinking coffee to lose weight. it induced full and partial seizures. didn’t make the connection for years, kept drinking coffee and having episodes, almost lost my job. one day after a coffee binge I had an episode but still remembered the lead-up, tried dropping coffee, the seizures went away. tried dropping chocolate too and my migraines went away – had them since I was a teenager, always thought it was just me, but it was the chocolate all along.
just mentioning it for anyone to whom it’s relevant.
How about cold tea? Make it and stick in fridge.
I would work just the same, save you have to leave it sit longer and tie it up while doing so.
Jack, you said you would leave the link to the Mr. Coffee grinder. Am I missing it? I just don’t see it.

Thanks Jack, I just added it to my Amazon cart. P.S. I purchased the Champion Generator you recommended and did discover that the 2000W is not enough for an RV we rented for an event. So there is now a second Generator and the connecting kit in my cart about to be purchased. Should have just listened to you the first time. Thanks again.
Jack, I bought this press last time you featured it. I LOVE IT! I had a Frieling press that was too small — just not enough coffee for my morning. This Secura press is the perfect size for me. I like that the lid is configured to close or pour. I use it for both coffee and tea. Well done, sir!
I got this French press a couple of years ago after my glass one broke. I love this one as it holds the heart well & is not prime to breaking.
How many ounces of coffee should I put in the 34 Oz press to get a good strong cup of coffee?
Honestly it is subjective but I don’t have time to weigh coffee each pot. We use 5TBS in the 34oz and 7TBS in the 50oz. I’d start there and go more or less based on taste which is kind of a big part of the point. FWIW we also drink almost exclusively dark roast except for a few specialty blends.
