Hydrofarm Submersible Pump – Item of the Day — 2 Comments

  1. I’ve used pumps like this for many years in my aquaponics systems, and for other needs, and they’re basically all the same.  The 284 gph unit from HF is kind of my standard.  The only point of failure I have ever had is the shaft wearing out, and eventually the hole in the impeller will wear out.  I have never had an electrical failure.

To replace the shaft, I just cut pieces of stainless TIG welding rod to the correct length.  I think the shafts are a metric diameter but I just use something that’s close and it works fine.

  2. Your descriptions of Items of the day make me want to buy one whether I need it or not. Lol
