Adjustable Grow Light Rope Hangers – Item of the Day
Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.
Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day are Adjustable Grow Light Rope Hangers and the ones I am linking to provide 6 sets (12 individual units) for only 18.99 or 1.58 a piece. The first thing I want to say about these is unlike 99% of the time I don’t feel brand is that important here. This is clearly a mass produced inexpensive product and dozens of vendors offer the same item in different quantities and price.
Put simply these are cheaply made but sometimes cheap is good, not often but sometimes. When? When light duty and simply functional is all you need. We are talking holding up some light weight grow lights here and simply having the ability to move those light up and down during a plants growth cycle.
Here is why you want to do this. Plants seek light and the less intense the light the harder they seek it. So faster vertical growth with the lights higher up is typical. However this is not what you are really wanting in started plants or even with indoor growing. Plants that are stocky are in general healthier and tend to make better transplants into the garden.
I keep my Barrina lights just a few inches above my seedlings and get great results but this is kind of a pain in the ass without something like these gadgets. I just use two per grow light and adjust the lights as needed. By using them on individual lights I can also accommodate plants in the same tray growing faster or slower than others in my system.
Now if you have super high intensity lights you can get too close and burn plants. I have not found Barinna lights to do that unless they are almost touching the plants. A good 2-4 inches of clearance is fine. I generally set it 4 inches (I don’t measure just by estimate) above my plants and move when they start to get into the 2 inch range.
So any negatives? Well I use these in my larger system built with a NSF Steel Style Rack and larger flood trays to water from below. With that type of rack you have a lot of space to work with to grow plants to larger sizes. The one thing these do is reduce how high you can raise your lights by a few inches (see video for explanation). So this is not an issue in larger systems but in a small system using something like a smaller cheap indoor mini green house rack, you may not want these. You also like do not need them.
Honestly that is the only negative I see. They do take a little effort to adjust but unlike auto retracting ones you have complete control and again they are just cheap and work. So if you need more control over your plant light distance give these Adjustable Grow Light Rope Hangers a try today and I doubt you will regret it.

P.S. – Here are two quick video that shows how they work and explains the small loss of vertical space. Note if you removed the clip on the side without the pulley and tied it static you could recover the length of that clip back (about an inch)
Great videos! Clear, to-the-point and well shot!
Sub dollar apiece when purchased from aliexpress; if you are willing to wait.
