AeroPress Coffee Maker – Item of the Day
Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.
Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the AeroPress Coffee Maker. And this thing is just amazing, in fact after buying one I immediately bought a second one so I can make two cups at a time. One for me and one for Dorothy.
When it comes to the basic AeroPress you have two options, the AeroPress Clear and the AeroPress Classic. The difference? The clear looks cool and costs 10 bucks more than the classic. Functionally they are the same. If you want to see all the options you can check out the AeroPress Store Here.
Oh and I have a confession. For years, people told me to try an AeroPress, and I flat-out ignored them. I loved my French Press. It was my go-to for making coffee and I saw no reason to switch. Then I finally gave in and tried an AeroPress, and now I feel like an idiot for waiting so long.
The first sip was all it took. The coffee is just better—deeper, richer, smoother. It reminds me of something you’d get in a high-end coffee shop or an upscale restaurant. The finer grind and pressure extraction bring out flavors that a French press just can’t. And if you want the best results, I’d suggest using a burr grinder for a consistent grind size and I highly recommend Vevor’s Burr Grinder if you don’t already have a burr grinder no matter how you make your coffee.
It’s also insanely fast. Heat the water, brew, and you’ve got a perfect cup in under two minutes. And cleanup? Even faster. Remove the filter screen, pop out the grounds, give it a quick rinse, and you’re done. Compare that to scrubbing out a French press full of sludge, and it’s no contest. Full clean up is less than 30 seconds and takes perhaps an ounce or two of rinse water.
When we got our first one my wife took one sip and immediately said, “Oh, this is so much better.” She won’t even let me get the French press out now. And here’s the thing—she drinks her coffee with flavored creamer, while I just use a bit of real cream. Somehow, even through all that sugary vanilla junk, she still noticed the difference. That tells you something.
The AeroPress is also way more versatile than a French press. You can make an espresso-style shot, which means you can also make drinks like Americanos. That’s just not an option with a French press. And if you like to experiment, there’s the inverted method, which has won multiple AeroPress competitions with pro brewers using it. If you want to play around and fine-tune your brew, you’ve got options. If you want to know about the inverted method, check this video. I prefer my method because it increases yield but I have tried inverted as well and it absolutely makes a great cup of joe.
For my method I figured out a way to get more coffee out of each brew without sacrificing flavor. Instead of following the directions and filling to the four on the tube, I fill it up to the top and let it drain to the 4 mark, then repeat the process one more time before pressing. I also use about a third more coffee than usual. The result? Same bold flavor, but a bigger yield—because we drink real cups of coffee around here, not tiny tea cups.
If you want to know how AeroPress says you should use this tool they have extensive instructions here.
And let’s talk about money. If you’re still paying $5-7 a day for Starbucks, you’re burning over two grand a year. That’s a full raised-bed garden, a greenhouse, and enough compost to keep it running for many seasons. Or you could just make coffee at home that’s better than what they serve and spend that money on something that actually improves your life.
The AeroPress is built tough, easy to use, easy to clean, and makes incredible coffee. If you’ve been on the fence, just do it. Trust me—I wish I had listened sooner. It is also AWESOME if you travel a lot, because again it is quick and requires so little water and effort to clean. So weather you want the cool look of the AeroPress Clear or you want to save 10 bucks to buy beans with, get the AeroPress Classic check them out today.
And remember you can find everything they have in the AeroPress Amazon Store as well. You may also want to pick up a pack of filters while you are at it. It does come with quite a few to start you off but once you try this coffee you are going to burn though those fast. Last thing the proper filters come out to about 2 cents each, when it comes to knock off filters on this, my advice? Just don’t. Read the reviews no one that does is happy.
