Lowry’s Seasoned Pepper – Item of the Day
Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.
Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is Lowry’s Seasoned Pepper. I first learned about this stuff from my nephew when I was at his house and he was coating burgers with it and a bit of salt. Those burgers were fantastic. So I grabbed the bottle to see what was in it, it was simply…
Black Pepper, Red Bell Peppers, Sugar, and Spices (including Paprika)
Okay let me say I have been cooking since I was 9 years old and this doesn’t make any sense. This stuff is good, really good and does amazing things to meat and enhances dry rubs in an amazing way. The mix here seems too simple, but sometimes things don’t have to make sense, they are just good and you simply accept it.
I will also say I am generally not into big named mass produced seasoning products from giant companies. ln this case, McCormick who makes Lowry’s products. Again though sometimes you just simply accept that something is really, really great and get on with life.
That is what I did with this one. I order it in the 10 ounce size as the smaller one is just too expensive per ounce by comparison. I often suggest with a seasoning you get a small size first to try it, gonna say just go ahead and get the big one this time. Trust me, you are going to love this stuff.
Here are a few ways I use this stuff..
Burgers – My nephew is a pretty good cook and just like him I now use this whenever I grill burgers or make them on the Blackstone. Just a good coat on both sides along with some salt.
Steaks – My go to with steaks on the grill or in a pan is salt, this stuff, onion powder and garlic powder. I just put roughly equal amounts on both sides and let it sit for at least a few hours in the refrigerator. Over night is even better. Then cook as described in Episode – 3135 of the podcast.
As Part of an Herb Rub – This is also good on steaks but I use it a lot on large cuts like Tri-Tips, Sirloin Caps, Roasts, etc. and especially when doing them sous vide. Here is what I do, 2 parts Redmonds Salt, 2 parts Lowry’s Season Pepper, then one part each of the following, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, oregano, rosemary, sage and cumin. I break up the cumin, sage and thyme in a mortar and pestal. Mix in a jar and usually make enough in a batch for 2-3 cooks.
It is good on veg as well, really great on grilled or sautéed things like say peppers and squash. It is dynamite on grilled mushrooms. Just give it a shot and I am sure you will find you love it just as much as I do. Its good when you lick it off your finger tips to be blunt.
So check out Lowry’s Seasoned Pepper today. Your taste buds will thank you.
