Courtney & David Gleason on Building a Resilient Lifestyle – Epi-2960

In 2014, David and Courtney Gleason and their two (at the time) small children left their suburban Charlotte, NC home, moving to a dilapidated farmhouse on five acres. Their original intention was to raise their own food under the highest standards, and to live a more sustainable, financially resilient life. In addition to homesteading, David works full time in the tool industry, and Courtney works part-time managing a residential real estate portfolio, plus she homeschools their (now) four little kids.
Within a few years of starting their homestead, they began producing more food than their family could eat, with the intention of selling the extra to offset their own food costs. It took several years and a lot of trial and error to learn how to build a sustainable pricing model for their premium products, and at the same time efficiently and effectively build a network full of potential and repeat customers without resorting to a farmer’s market booth.
Now, their homestead business sells a variety of products to passionate, loyal customers. Their premium soy-free, Certified Organic-fed, ethically raised eggs and meats are sold directly to their “farm fans” and are typically sold out with a wait list. They have an online course (Homesteader University) designed to help aspiring and seasoned homesteaders alike build their own resilient, sustainable homestead business from scratch without a farmer’s market booth.
