I botched my question. I should have been more specific about the reasoning behind the purist sentiment in the carnivore question. I was trying to get an idea of safe herbs and spices during an elimination carnivore diet that Dr Ken Berry talks about. He goes over being strictly carnivore for the first 90 days and then introduce one thing at a time to find out if you have a sensitivity to it, for me specifically, I am trying to find an autoimmune disease food sensitivity. The Auto Immune Protocol diet does include vegetables, but in a recent video of Ken’s, he was talking about how some plants that he once considered was okay is now not strict enough to find the root of the problem, so I was just trying to get a sense if all herb and spices are a no go, or if some in small quantities would be ok.
Jordan my answer would remain the absolute same. If you want to use the method for food sensitive though this would be the process.
Go 100% lion, salt meat nothing else for say a week, if you are already keto that is enough. Now add an herb for a week, no problems, add another one, etc. This would help you find any sensitivities.
I personally think this is extreme though. Ken is like me, he goes ALL IN on things. This can be good but it is also good to have a friend let you know when you all in is too far. lol
Native Americans were among the most healthy people who ever lived prior to 1492. They at plenty beyond meat but at mostly meat. They also only had one real grain in the North, maize. They had nothing like wheat, barley, etc. Even in Central America the closest they had was like Amaranth etc. No seed oils, all the fat came from game and fish, etc.
I really believe based on DEEP study of their lives this is how we were meant to live.
Here is a presentation on early diets in North America a few years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYDo8jKF0cI
