Jack – I too am blind in my left eye. Been listening on and off (busy divorced working mom of four future survivalist/preppers) to your podcast for many years; my first comment on here cuz I’m shy I guess. My eye is lazy as well. I was scratched by a cat when I was 5 years old and they had to remove parts of the eye – lens, cornea, etc.
I too wish I had done these things while growing up to keep it in better shape. I was legally blind, and then a year or two ago, something out of the blue happened (working too hard possibly) and my retina became detached, my eye pressure went from 40’s and 50’s down to a 1! I went to the eye doctor and they did emergency surgery to try to reattach the retina to save what was left of it.
I had to have timolol eyedrops daily before the surgery to keep the pressure down. Now I’m even more blind and because of the trauma to it and scar tissue, the surgeon just can’t reattach all of the retina and did her best. She wanted to do a 3rd but we decided against it since it wouldn’t improve my vision much more and the recovery is hell and painful. I was supposed to just lay down and not bend over or lift ANYthing. They wanted me to sleep face down. It sucked! Anyway, just had to share my experience and that I loved hearing about the things Andy suggested.
Love your podcast and hearing about you and your family, and all the info you get out to us listeners, keep it up please! And many thanks for everything you do.
