Get Answers Today From The Expert Council
Today is Friday so it is time for our ask expert council show. To ask a question for a show like this, just send an email to me at jack at thesurvivalpodcast.com with “TSPC Expert” in the subject line.
In the body of your email first tell me the council member your question is for. Second ask your question concisely in one to two sentences maximum. Third any and all details after that. This is the formula to give you the best chance of getting on the air.
I do what I can to get as many of your questions as possible on the air but can’t always get to all of them. Our council is made of a wide variety of experts in everything from the tactical to the practical and everything in between.
To get more information on our Expert Council visit our “Meet the Expert Council Page” to learn more about them and their specific areas of expertise.

Want Every Episode of TSP Ever Produced?
Remember in addition to discounts to over 40 vendors who supply stuff you are likely buying anyway, tons of free ebooks and video content, MSB Members also get every edition of The Survival Podcast ever produced in convenient zip files in blocks of 24. More info on the MSB can be found here.
Show lengths: For me, make them as long as you want, as I love the long shows. So if that was the reason to cut them short, then don’t, but don’t kill yourself. Ninety minutes is plenty for my $.20. Also, 90 minutes is probably less daunting for new listeners.
Keep up the great work.
Speaking of radios… Is Murs-radio down? I tried to access it from the MSB and it was gone.
I am glad Jack shifted over the question to localization – of course localization efforts are at the core. It’s part of what we all need to work with, IMHO. But I think the life-boating focus of the question has other implications than just localizing – it hints at resistance. I know i didn’t address that, but that topic begs to be addressed by the question, I think.
I’m with Erica — get both! Jack is right about some of the negatives about muscovies but I totally love my muskies. I also have Welsh Harlequins and am enjoying them as well. With one musky drake and 3 hens, I can reach Fall with some 20-30 juveniles to dispatch. That is not a huge number when talking about meat production but for a 1/2 acre property, that is not too shabby. One negative on the meat side that neither Erica or Jack mentioned is FAT. Muscovies are a lean bird. Duck fat is AMAZING so for that you would want a pekin so you can have meat and fat. I’ve had a few pekins (rescues) and find them noisy and obnoxious. I don’t like them. Muscovies are also just silly puppy dogs — they will wag their tails and beg for treats with shameless abandon.
I agree with Mr.Glance.
I will note, at least on the UV5R series, you can lock the keypad on Baofengs. Will help with neophytes pressing buttons, somewhat. Hold one button for a second and its unlocked.
Beats nothing. They’re a pain in the ass to program. But they’re cheap. Tit for tat.
Great show.
For the record, I’m ok with the long shows. I have this thing called ‘choice’, where I’m not forced to finish listening to the whole episode all at once. I can restart and finish at any time. =) I actually prefer the longer shows, but I won’t cry if they’re shorter either. I realize it takes a lot of production time. I’m getting more than my money’s-worth either way, and yes, I’m in the MSB.
Jack, is there any chance you could copy the blurb you did on local economies after Ben’s answer to the Lifeboat question and host it independently?
It’s a really hard hitting piece and one I’d like to share with a ton of people in my local community and e-communities.
