Today its Friday so it’s time for the expert council show. To ask a question for a show like this, just send an email to me at jack at thesurvivalpodcast.com with “TSPC Expert” in the subject line.
Today on The Survival Podcast, the expert council answers questions on health, nutrition, automotive prep, medical issues, bee keeping, livestock, homeschooling, investing, the economy, careers and more.
In the body of your email first tell me the council member your question is for. Second ask your question concisely in one to two sentences maximum. Third any and all details after that. This is the formula to give you the best chance of getting on the air.
I do what I can to get as many of your questions as possible on the air but can’t always get to all of them. Our council is made of a wide variety of experts in everything from the tactical to the practical and everything in between.
To get more information on our Expert Council visit our “Meet the Expert Council Page” to learn more about them and their specific areas of expertise.

On Doc Bones’ cellulitis response,
I’ve seen several nasty reactions, one becoming life threatening to not make this comment.
If you suspect an infection, everything Bones said I think pretty much covered it, but avoid using hydrocortisone or any other form of steroid. As an Army medic, I had a few very well meaning soldiers try to treat some simple scratches and wounds with hydrocortisone, but a steroid is not prejudiced, and it made the infection much much worse.
Again, being that Doc recommended salves and ointments, I felt it prudent to point out this risk. I think I’ll get off my but and submit the question of when to, and when not to use topical steroids such as hydrocortisone.
Janks Jack, and Doc.
Set this to Doc, hopefully he will respond.
I totally agree with Will’s opinion that hydrocortisone is not a great idea for cellulitis. With regards to ointments, I mentioned antibiotic ointments or barriers like petroleum jelly in the segment, not hydrocortisone, although even these are more preventative in nature and not as useful as treatment as the oral antibiotics I also mentioned.
Dr. Bones
I also support Shawn Mills’ recommended jump pack as I own an older Ford F-350 with the 7.3 diesel in it. That jump pack will start up to a 10 liter motor, which the vast majority won’t. Very user friendly with nice features which I notice many professionals use the same one.
