Today its Friday so it’s time for expert council show. To ask a question for a show like this, just send an email to me at jack at thesurvivalpodcast.com with “TSPC Expert” in the subject line.
Today the expert council answers questions on horses, sugar addition, podcasting, tires, hyperuricemia, rocket mass heaters, aquaponics and more.
In the body of your email first tell me the council member your question is for. Second ask your question concisely in one to two sentences maximum. Third any and all details after that. This is the formula to give you the best chance of getting on the air.
I do what I can to get as many of your questions as possible on the air but can’t always get to all of them. Our council is made of a wide variety of experts in everything from the tactical to the practical and everything in between.
To get more information on our Expert Council visit our “Meet the Expert Council Page” to learn more about them and their specific areas of expertise.

I couldn’t agree with Charles more about the importance of good tires and tire maintenance! I’ll share a quick story.
Last night, my husband, my daughter, and myself were headed to our weekly Civil Air Patrol meeting. Out of the blue, my husband said, “I have a TPMS light.” We both thought it was weird because we haven’t been having temperature fluctuations that cause the tire pressure to fluctuate. Within about 30 seconds though, I knew why he had the light. “You’ve got a flat. Get off the road NOW!”
We pulled over, and sure enough, the rear driver’s side tire was flatter than a pancake! We grabbed our Ryobi One+ compressor and tried to put air in the tire, but air was coming out as fast as we were putting it in.
Long story short, we’d run over a screw that put a big hole in the treat, so we were left to changing a tire on the side of a state highway so we could get back home. There’s nothing too special about that story, right? WRONG! That’s the first flat tire my husband has ever had to change himself and he’ll be 42 in August, and I firmly believe that’s because we pay a lot of money for good tires and we pay VERY close attention to tire maintenance.
Jack always talks about adding a plug kit to preps, and after last night’s experience, we’ll do that. I got on Zello first thing to talk with folks about how to use one and how to choose a good one. In the end though, things worked out OK and the fact that we had the compressor (to air up the donut which was supposed to be at 60PSI but was only at 17PSI) and a “persuader” (black pipe to extend the lug wrench) made things WAY easier!
Pocket Casts shows today’s podcast in the description but plays yesterday’s show. Not sure if it’s isolated to Pocket Casts. I came here to your website to catch today’s show.
BTW, I just picked up my 15.9-quart pot and steamer from Ikea. You’re right, it’s the perfect setup. Thank you.
Well, the discount code in (dis)honor of the vegan socialist brought me back into the fold. My son’s in-laws are Jewish, so I’ll be sharing beef bacon with them. https://www.thekitchn.com/the-skinny-on-beef-bacon-how-t-79133
Hilarious!
Tape measures…sharpies…toe nail clippers. That is sooo true. Add hammers to that list and it’s creepy, like you’re living my life! 😀
I’m having the same issue Brian Hawkins… Thanks for validating me! lol
Re episode mixup, I had the same issue with Pocket Casts a couple episodes back. Unsubscribed and resubscribed and it’s been ok. But I of course lost the episodes I wanted to save, so I should have jotted those down before unsubscribing.
