Jack, loved your answer on snakes and snake behavior. You explained something I saw years ago: a garter snake rattling its tail in some dry leaves on the patio. What made this mimicry slightly less effective as a threat was that the snake was maybe all of 10″ long and about as big around as a pencil. I had to laugh. I know it was instinct but I felt like awarding points for attitude.

I’ve not seen any of the local garter snakes do this but have had some big, long gopher snakes play this game. It’s hilarious, but only after you realize it’s NOT actually a rattler. Before that = adrenaline check!

For a minute there I thought this was going to be the episode where Jack interviews Jason Vorhees about making human biltong. =)

Any ideas on handling 2 legged snakes? The ones commonly found in corporate pits.

In the History Segment your fascinating aside on The Geodesy Series by Piers Anthony lead me to search for it without luck. So now am thinking it’s something else by Mr Anthony as the Geodesy Series by Susan Michalski doesn’t seem to be about linguistics or have the historical scope. If you think of which Piers Anthony books you meant I’d love to know.

Thanks very much, have ordered it. As am in France I do use Amazon UK to order books in English. If you can do your Amazon ordering thing on Amazon UK the ex-pat listeners of your excellent podcasts who live this side of the Atlantic would use it….
