Bioreactor Compost is Amazing – See the Results for Yourself
Take a look at the above image. These are both suck cuttings of a plant knowns as Longevity Spinach and it is very easy to root as a cutting. Since it dies below freezing I take cuttings from my garden in fall and grow a few plants indoors for set out in the following spring.
Which one of these plants would you want to plant in your garden? If you were buying plants at a store or nursery and they were sitting next to one another which would you buy? Not even a hard question is it? The one on the left!
Well, they were both stuck on the same day, they have both been watered exactly the same and they both grew about 4 inches apart. There are actually 6 of these plants, three of each and it is the same story with all of them.
Guess which one was stuck into my bioreactor compost. Again the one on the left.
But, did I stack the deck? What is the one on the right stuck into? The answer is Fox Farms Happy Frog Potting Soil. Now look if you had to buy a potting soil that or Fox Farms Ocean Forest is what I would recommend. These two soils are used by micro green growers, organic plant propagators, the cannabis industry and may others. Why? Because it is an outstanding soil for something you can buy off the shelf.
It is why I used it for the control in my experiment. And why the night and day difference is so dang impressive. Note that the total size of the leaves is not the only thing to look at. Look at the new growth specifically. There is about double the mass of new growth on the compost plant vs. the potting soil plant. Neither have been given any fertilizer and the Fox Farms soil definitely has more NPK then my compost. The difference maker is biology and the fungi to bacterial ratio.
On my segment of today’s show I talk about this further but if you want to know how to do this the first thing to learn is how to make biologically active and fungal dominant compost. This is why my first course at Home Food Systems is the Bioreactor Compost Course. This type of compost takes two real thing, knowledge and time. Hence now is the time to gain the knowledge.
