Hakeem Anwar, a technologist, activist, educator, and entrepreneur, currently leads a number of projects focused on the intersection of technology and personal freedom. Exiting his corporate career as a software engineer to support activist movements – he found the true power of the internet is to bring people together under one cause.
After facing mass censorship and cyberattacks, he realized that free thinkers need friendly technology and so he founded Take Back Our Tech to teach others how to use empowering technology. In 2021, he launched his first company Above that develops private phones, computers, and communication services based on decentralized open-source technology.
Today they have thousands of customers and is pioneering solutions to educate people on alternative communications, self-custody of data, and healthful use of technology.
