Bidding War Begun on Custom MT Knives
About two years ago I had a custom knife maker reach out to me and trade me a Bird and Trout Knife for an MSB Membership. I have fallen in love with the Bird and Trout Pattern. The Bird and Trout Pattern has been around for ages, today a lot of people do not stay true to the concept in what they call a Bird and Trout Knife. Many just market any knife suitable for processing small game as such.
The original version is a classic gentleman’s knife. A knife the guy who both fly fishes and hunts quail over dogs with a 28 gauge double would carry. The key is that the handle is a full sized handle with a short blade suited for processing smaller fish, birds and small game like squirrel and rabbits with. It does all of this wonderfully. In carrying one on and off for about two years now I have found it to be an exceptional day to day knife for a belt carry EDC knife.
Patrick is my personal knife maker as many of you know so I reached out to him to make a custom Bird and Trout knife for me. He ended up making 4 and so far they are the only 4 he has made. Each is totally unique. They are now up for bid, we started the bidding on a Facebook Group but some people can’t or don’t want to use Facebook. So we will complete the auction this week here.
The rules are simple, high bidder wins BUT you have to be coming to the TSP Fall Workshop for 2019 or be a TSP Workshop Alum to bid on these knives. The winning bidders will have to be confirmed by me. To be clear an alum is any member of the community that has been to a full multi day workshop as either an attendee or a staff member. The weekend half day stuff and things like that do not count for this.

These knives are made with XHP Steel, a steel very few knife makers are using but more are moving to it daily. It is basically a stainless version of 02 Tool Steel. It holds and edge like no other steel I have ever used. Blade Length is 3.25 Inches. Overall length is 7 and 7/8ths inches. This is a rare opportunity a truly amazing custom. Patrick stays extremely busy and even getting a custom from him without an extinsive wait is rare. To get one of the first four knives he has made of a particular pattern is a true opportunity. I already have mine, one of the others is spoken for, these two are up for bid. Let the battle begin!!!!!

Patrick, can you tell us what you used to finish the walnut handles in knife two? They came out beautiful. Thanks!
I really didn’t do much, it was just a nice piece of stabilized wood. I think I did put one coat of French polish on it, I may end up doing some more to it.
Ron will you be at the workshop?
Unfortunately not this one. Hopefully I can get away next year and come to one. It has been too long. Let me know how we need to close this deal.
