Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 1:40:16 — 22.9MB)
Andy hosts the Poor Proles Almanac, an eco-agricultural podcast highlighting the skills and practices we need to build today in order to be prepared for the world that is coming. Having managed greenhouses & livestock, taken Permaculture courses, and studied ecology.
Andy’s ecology-first focused solutions highlights a different approach to the concept of permanent agriculture which focuses on resilient ecosystems that are capable of withstanding climate change.
Today we discuss how planting for human food systems doesn’t address the ecological needs of damaged ecosystems, and by learning how to work within local conditions will not only create a more resilient prepper but also reinforces the health of local ecosystems.

I enjoyed your interview today. I’ve listen to quite a few poor proles almanac episodes and while I don’t agree with their politics, the podcast is extremely informative. The best description of how swales work that I ever heard in audio form was in one of their episodes and I also really enjoyed their deep dives into different indigenous agricultures around the world. I also recall really enjoying an episode where they discussed how Cuba reworked their agricultural system when they were cut off from the world.
I cannot agree more that we need to put politics aside and focus on working together where we agree in order to make the world a better place.
Ironically Cuba is the ultimate lesson in why socialism fails EVERY TIME.
All the success in Cuba when they were cut off was instantly abandoned the minute outside support, fertilizer, etc came back. Marjory talked about that after visiting Cuba near the end of the cycle. She keys in on it near the final part of this podcast I did with her many years ago.
