Mark Baker on Solving America’s Food Crisis – Epi-3186
Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 1:54:20 — 26.2MB)
Mark and Jill Baker, raise their animals on regenerative land management practices with good ole’ fashion sunshine and managed pastures.
Community is at the heart of bakers green acres. Through the natural systems of the farm, we seek to build soil communities, a healthy environment for our family, and relationships in our greater community to provide great pasture-based food for those around us.
Pasture, the product of sunshine and soil, is the basis of our meat production. Green grass, sunshine, and fresh air enable us to raise healthier, happier animals that result in the best tasting, highest quality meat possible. Our chickens, pigs, turkeys, dairy cows, and other assorted livestock enjoy living the life they were meant to live. The process is based on natural systems, making it more ecologically resilient.
The idea for “Anyone Can Farm” was born in the midst of a struggle for our right to farm at Baker’s Green Acres. Mark Baker stood on his Constitutional rights and prevailed, but also gained an appreciation for giving back to the community as he’d been so generously supported. “Anyone Can Farm” is based on the idea espoused by the gregarious chef in Ratatouille who always proclaimed “anyone can cook” and set out to teach anyone who wanted to learn.
Mark joins us today to discuss solving America’s food crisis with homesteads and small farms, his past battles with the government, the “Anyone Can Farm” movement and more.

Awesome conversation! Great job, Bakers!
Mark, thanks for walking point on that whole “illegal” pig issue – you probably saved thousands of small farms from gubmint “oversight” way beyond just the pigs. No doubt it spread like wildfire amongst those entities and kept them puckered up for a while. Sounds like you’ve got a great organization setup and I look forward to learning more about it.
