French Press by FineDine – Item of the Day
Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.
Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is my favorite French Press on Amazon. It is the French Press by FineDine. The thing I love most about this press is it comes with FOUR screens. I run mine with all 4 installed. A few times a week I unscrew the filter holder and wash them all out, that is all the maintenance I do and that takes about 1 minute flat.
This item is a replacement for the French Press I used to recommend that was made by Kitchen Supreme. That one is not discontinued and selling used for 60-80 bucks on Amazon. As far as i can tell the one made by FineDine is essentially the same press. All these companies today use common manufactures to private label products like this.
What I really like about this press is that the top is insulated, this holds in heat if you turn the top to close the spout very well. Once you push a press down the coffee or tea is essentially separated for good, that means your second or third cup won’t get all tannic and nasty on you. One upgrade to this new model is also that the measuring scoop is now steel instead of plastic. And best yet, it won’t set you back 60-80 bucks like the old one will now, it is only 18.99. I mean judge for yourself,
They appear identical to me save one is new and cheap and the other used and expensive, but you bet your own judge.
Previously I featured our favorite tea infuser, and it is what I reach for when I want to make a single cup, but almost every morning we fire up our French Press. It makes 34 ounces in one go, or two of our really big cups. If you use the recipe from that article, this is the way to use it with a full sized French Press.
Put in 3 tablespoons of tea. Make your first batch, for each additional batch just add one additional tablespoon and do another run. I do up to 6 runs a day like this, (we drink a lot of tea) and always sweeten with liquid stevia. Since I always try to do a value add with these posts I will give away another of my tea blends today, do not let the simplicity of this one fool you.
Jack’s Three Mints Tea (yep lemon balm and bee balm are actually mints)
- 2 Parts Peppermint
- 1 Part Bee Balm
- 1 Part Lemon Balm
This is a great sipping and contemplation tea. It also is my favorite tea to make for iced tea. Done that way with a bit of lemon and stevia or honey it is quite amazing, just pre sweeten with honey if you are going that route while it is still hot.
Additionally this is my go to press for coffee, in fact we don’t even have a coffee maker in the house any more. We just use this and our electric kettle. For a nice batch of Holler Roast I use three level scoops to a full press. It comes out so much better then it does from a drip machine.
Anyway if you are in the market for a French Press again this is the absolute best value for the money I have found.

P.S. – I first reviewed this item in June of 2016 well over a year ago. Since then I have formulated many teas, here is a new one I am really enjoying.
Folks that have made other teas of mine in the past will recognize it as a modified version of Jack’s Morning Blend, doing away with the Lemon Balm and doubling the Lemon Grass. This small change pays a big dividend in flavor. In short you get a lot more lemon hit from Lemon Grass than Lemon Balm.
I also cut back the Chamomile and let the Lemon Grass and Mint become the stars of this blend. I like it even better than the original, and that is what is so rewarding about blending your own teas, discovering things like this over time.
Jacks Morning Blend – Nine Mile Farms Tea
- 2 Parts Peppermint
- 2 Part Lemon Grass
- 1 Parts Chamomile
- 1 Part Gunpowder Green Tea (caffeinated) OR 1 Parts Blackberry Leaf (for decaf)
This is funny. I bought this exact set on Friday from Amazon. I’m using to to cold brew black tea (Orange Pekoe) at work.
I only use a french press. Everytime I go to somebody elses house like my wife’s parents that use a dripper, I’m completely baffled by their choice in coffee making. So much so, I don’t take them seriously.
Combine it with an electric water kettle and the best coffee is made from start to finish in 10 minutes.
I use my French press several times a week because the coffee tastes slightly better, and I want to reduce my electric bill. This looks like a better product than I am using now, so I’ll keep it in mind as a replacement.
Yes sir. A great prep too. In fact, it was on Ken Jensen’s podcast where I first heard of a French Press. And it was Ken’s podcast that ultimately lead me to TSP 2 yrs ago. He’s a good guy, but, no one compares to Jack.
The bergamot in Earl Grey tea comes from an orange tree (Citrus bergamia) that is grown commercially in Calabria, Italy.
I don’t know how or why other plants are also called Bergamot, but they won’t give you the same flavor as that Italian orange.
Well shit if you don’t learn something every day the day is wasted, so thanks, I removed the inaccurate info from the post above.
As to why it is called Bergamot, brew some English black tea, with a bit of fresh bee balm, and it will become quite clear.
Really dumb question: does this require electricity?
If you don’t want to use electricity, make cowboy coffee:
Put pot to boil on campfire or wood stove
Add coffee
Boil 4 minutes
Pour cold water all over the top of the water to drop the grounds to the bottom
Pour and enjoy!
I’ve been using a French Press for years and agree with the group, wholeheartedly, it makes the best coffee and tea. I’m a fan of stainless for the durability and have a Frieling. While a bit pricey, I’m pretty sure I’ll be passing it down to one of my sons one day. Just watch out if you drop it on a tile floor. Instead of having to purchase a new one like Jack, I damn near broke a toe and had to scamper to the alarm panel, because it triggered a glass break sensor.
Thanks for getting turning us on to making coffee in a French press. We are hooked. My wife found an insulated stainless steel French press. It’s great for keeping the coffee hot, and once pressed, the coffee strength stays the same. I’ll see if I can find the link if anyone is interested.
