Dewalt 20V MAX Cordless Drill – Item of the Day — 7 Comments

  1. Absolutely THRILLED about this video, Jack. I bought one of these drills last month and was having that trouble with the battery. I emailed DeWalt about it yesterday, but after watching your video, I tried it and lo and behold, it seems to be charging (before it was failing to charge, just like you showed in the video). Thanks!

    • Let me know what they say, I just emailed their corporate office about this issue, but a company that size you don’t know if you will hear back. I think this will solve a ton of problems for them and then who knows what I might be able to get from Dewalt for you guys.

  2. Had my 20V Max tools almost a year and they are indeed superior. Powerful tools with long-lasting lithium batteries. A super combo! Never had a problem with charging. Highly recommend!

  3. Jack,

Testimony on Dewalt customer service: Short of it, I had 1 of my 2 adapters go bad (DCA1820). Called them, answered all the questions about models, drills, and that engraved series of numbers by the battery compartment. New one is on the way with a return shipping box for the old one. No proof of purchase.

The weird piece: Have a 18v battery charged and 2 20 volt batteries charged and plugged into the 2 adapters. Take a multimeter and test the output of each. All show the correct voltage. Plug 18v battery in, drill works. Plug 1st adapter in with 20v battery, drill works. Plug 2nd (bad) adapter into the drill, drill doesn’t work. Neither does a second drill, jig saw etc etc. I couldn’t figured it out in the end. I thought maybe the contacts on the adapter got compressed to much, so they couldn’t make a connection with the tools, but I got my micrometer out and there really isn’t any difference between any of them.

But, Dewalt fixed it no problem! Doesn’t shake my faith in them because something broke. Probably the only piece I’ve had break actually. Makes me more faithful that fixing it was really hassle free.

  4. Indeed DeWalt does make great tools, however their 20V battery pack is a marketing trick as in practical terms DeWalt 20V battery pack is the same as other manufacturers 18 V battery.

  5. If you are driving a lot of screws and lag bolts the impact drivers will change your life. I use Makita because I have always used Makita while I did construction and my dad was an electrician and always used Makita. But Dewalt also has one in their line. Impacts are made to drive fasteners, drill motors are made to drill holes. Either will do the other, but don’t excel in it. Combo kits are the way to go if you are starting fresh and they are easy to find on ebay and so are the tools alone. I just found a new one, tool only, that will use your 20 volt battery for $65 and free shipping. I swear by mine. Hope it helps.

  6. In addition to using the batteries for their tools, with an adapter, they can also be used in their heated jackets. And with that same adapter you can plug in a USB cable and power electronics. I got quite a few phone charges out of mine while at the hospital when my wife had our baby. I just threw it in my hospital grab bag.
