Don’t worry I am not going anywhere.  When ever I do announce an episode like this one I get emails and DM’s that are like “dude is everything okay”.  Look guys and gals, I am old but not that old.  We have been here 15 years and I plan to be around at least 15 more, barring any run away gravel trucks or something like that, old timers will get the joke.

That said there will be some significant changes announced today so you don’t want to miss this one.  Overall though it will be more like a “State of the Podcast” address.  We will discuss the way we got here, where we are going and some things I hope will make us better then we have ever been, as podcast and as a community.

Join Me Today to Discuss…

  • The early years, how it started and how we got here
  • Why I have always built this show the way I have
  • When I started doing the expert council shows I thought it would give me a day off, it really hasn’t
  • Why I may soon go to 4 shows a week
    • I don’t think anyone listens to every show anymore if you do you are the minority
    • I put out more total content in 3 shows now than I did with 5 in the beginning
    • I do get tired, run out of ideas some weeks and sometimes just don’t want to do a show sometimes
    • More to the point, I get great ideas for solo shows and don’t have the time to prep them
    • I want to do more “projects” like meat curing, etc. and record them
    • What is the point of all the work if you can’t call the shots, and I don’t want employees
    • I want more time with my grandkids and to help my wife with how much she does for them
    • To be clear I am not asking permission but I do hope people understand
  • Some things I want to do going forward
    • Some sponsor changes are coming, this may open up some new spots
    • I plan to do more interviews on other podcasts etc. (growth mode again)
    • I may go to two interviews a week, more likely two every other week
    • I want to do more “how to content” fishing, cooking, etc (this takes prep time)
    • I may do some more appearances if it allows bonus travel with my wife
    • I may do a show a month not you YouTube where no censorship can touch me
    • I want to stack more value into MSB with more partners
    • I want to start doing some shot content that is more than show excepts
    • I do want to start building some courses, the aquatics one WILL NOT be first
    • Lets take a look at the TspAz Item of the Day early today and how it plays into all this
  • My commitment to you
    • I will be the same J.E.R.K. I have always been, some things will never change
    • I will continue to speak the truth, I will never “sell out” and the opportunities do come
    • The TSP one word brand is “integrity” and that won’t ever change
    • I will keep challenging you to focus on what you actually control
    • I will keep pushing you to
      • Learn something new daily
      • Challenge yourself constantly
      • Never waste your dash
  • Here is to 15 more years, at least, there is nothing in life I want to do more than what I do right now, thank you

Galvanized Metal Raised Garden Bed – Deal of the Day

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 21, 2023 by Jack SpirkoSeptember 21, 2023 7

Price Alert – These were a on a limited time deal early this week.  Yesterday someone commented they had gone up to about 160 bucks, so I thought it was a done deal.  Today for now anyway they are again on sale at 125, so if you missed your chance on Monday or Tuesday you have another shot at them today.

UPDATE – Keep an eye on this if you are wanting one.  The price went right back up after I posted this.  If you want to look at a similar product from the same company check this one out.  It is a squared off version for only 132 bucks on sale.  A lot of you guys have bought this model even though I didn’t specifically recommend it because you prefer the squared off shape and no one has complained about it.  Tune in for more of my thoughts on this in episode 3380 today.

Today I am brining you a special deal on Galvanized Metal Raised Garden Beds.  These just look amazing for the price including shipping at under 150 bucks each and with dimensions of 4×8 with a full two foot of depth they are the perfect size for vegetable beds.

Okay, right up front, unlike 99% of what is in the TspAz.com catalog I do not own these but I am recommending it anyway.  Why?  It is pretty hard to screw this type of thing up.  Corrugated galvanized metal is what it is, same stuff they make stock tanks out of.  When I first saw the price I was like how can you sell and ship a piece of 8x4x2FT for under 150 bucks?  Instantly I thought, it is in multiple pieces and it is which is how they can afford to ship it at this price. They come in panels with nuts and bolts.  You just pop in the bolts and tighten the nuts onto them.  So assembly is going to be a snap especially if you have a drill or impact tool.

Here is a break down of the value I see…

  • 2 foot of depth – this will give you enough fill for awesome soil in a bed that is simply level place and fill.
  • Galvanized Steel – this will outlast pressure treated lumber, landscape timbers, etc.
  • Value – I don’t think you can buy the lumber and hardware for a 4×8 bed today for much less than 150 bucks
  • Standard Bed Size – the 4×8 bed is a standard for a reason, may of my beds are longer but all are 4 foot wide and that with is double reach and works perfectly with my PVC irrigation method.
  • Looks – These types of beds just look awesome from day one.
  • Ease of Working – All my beds are about 24-28 inches high, it keeps ducks out but also reduced bending.
  • Easy to Block Grass and Weeds – just lay down a double layer of landscape fabric the exceeds the foot print by about 2 foot all around for paths and you’ll not have runners invade for a very long time.
    `

So, these are not for everyone, I really love the look and customizable nature of my beds mostly built with timbers, but if I was starting from scratch I would really consider these.  At my place in Arlington I had four, 4×8 beds and some containers and it grew all the produce we needed.

So while I don’t own these, given what they are made of, and the way they are designed I can’t fault them and recommend them for anyone who wants the look and features they have to offer especially at 150 bucks each on this awesome deal.  And again that is a shipped to your front door price.  And hey now is the time to get new beds in for the fall season.  Despite the current heat September is only 35 days away!

Check These Things Out and See if they Fit Your Garden Expansion Plans

P.S. – I found one bad review they stated that the item was bent, blame the shipper and frankly this is easy to fix.  The other complaint they made I did find legit, it was that there was one panel missing drilled holes for assembly.  This is a flaw and it happens with items like this.  If you have a drill though you can fix that in a few minutes tops.  This complaint came from one person and the item has over 70 reviews mostly 4 and 5 stars so I don’t think the occurrence is common.

There were also a few complaints that the bolts rusted.  Yes bolts will rust but I wouldn’t worry about that, it will take decades for that rust to ruin such a bolt.  If you want you can go get stainless bolts from any hardware store if it is important to you.  Tractor Supply sells hardware like this by the pound no matter what you get as to washers, bolts, nuts etc. Or spray em with a shot of rust converter (available at Home Depot an the like for a few bucks a can) once a season and call it a day.

Better Health for Family & Homestead with the Carnivore Diet – Epi-3379

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 20, 2023 by Jack SpirkoSeptember 20, 2023
https://survivalpodcast.net/audio/2023/09/epi-3379-carnivore-benefits.mp3

Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 1:32:40 — 26.5MB)

Today we discuss the incredible benefits of a carnivore diet! Learn how TD and his son Matt slashed waste by 75% and turned their homestead cash flow positive, all while improving their family’s health. Join us to uncover the secrets to their success!

Almost 10 years ago, their family uprooted from the North East and left everything they knew about life behind them. They walked to freedom. The move was necessary if they wanted to provide a better quality of life for their children. They desired to teach them about the “real” things in life: food, family, farming, and a simple faith.

They drove to an unknown and very different “country”…TEXAS. They came with nothing but their three small children.  In TD’s words, “The Lord was faithful to provide them with housing and work. Slow but sure, He revealed His path for their family one step at a time”.

So with each passing year, they learned to trust Him more and step out on faith. There were times of deep valleys and strong storms but through it all, God has been so good to them! They have accumulated about 50 acres of land and raise a small herd for beef.

Streamlight MicroStream – Item of the Day

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 20, 2023 by Modern SurvivalSeptember 20, 2023 18

Special Note – This amazing little EDC light is on sale for 48% off the retail price today.  If you don’t have one of these you should get one, if you have one, get another.

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the Streamlight MicroStream light. I have been recommending the larger version of this light, the Streamlight Stylus Pro for almost ten years. The reason I didn’t really recommend this one until now is simply because the Streamlight Stylus Pro is within a dollar or two of the MicroStream. Two batteries vs. one battery, hence double the life of the batteries with the same level of power draw. Or double the power of the light and the same amount of time of operation, your choice really.  Given the Streamlight Stylus Pro fits in a front pocket to the point of almost disappearing and forgetting you have it until you need it, I never saw a reason to go to the smaller light.

This is where a man must admit he doesn’t know what it is like to be a woman, even in some very simple ways. I featured the larger light just last month and expert council member Nicole Sauce made the follow comment on it…

I like the one that takes only the (CR123) battery because it is shorter and clips inside the lame assed non pockets they put in girl jeans without risk of falling out.

Well if you go look at those comments you will see I didn’t let that target go by with out taking a shot at it, BUT, she had a point. Folks I didn’t know that “girl jeans” came with “lame assed non pockets”. Now lets chat about those CR123 batteries though. I figure Nicole meant something like the Olight S2. Now Olight actually sent me one when they came out, good light, also over priced and flatly I despise CR123 batteries.

I prefer AA and AAA because I have about a cagillion of them in storage. I also have tons of them in rechargeable form and charger full of fresh ones at all times. Is a CR123 better from a power standpoint? Yea but the best batteries are the ones you always have, can always get and can always scavenge. If AA and AAA batteries were shotgun shells they would be 12 and 20 gauge, CR123s would be at best 410s and more like 28 gauge. Really good for what is does best but largely unneeded, hard to find and frankly over priced.

I told Olight as much, they told me I was wrong but they now have a AAA version of their own. Funny that?

My philosophy though is standardization as much as you can and as much as makes sense. Take my property and plumbing for instance. We have PVC everywhere, it is a big property and water is life. Well other than some legacy 3/4ths everything is either 1/2″ or 1 inch. That way I always have any fitting, valve or pipe I could ever need on hand if something needs work. Yea sure some of the return lines are 2 inch on the aquatic systems, but only because that is necessary for a specific application.

Specialized is used where necessary, standard is used everywhere else.

So if you want to standardize on CR123s good luck finding a TV remote that uses them, or lawn lights, etc. Yet I bet right now if you are in your home, you are no more than 10-15 yards from some AAs and AAAs. Including some you could “loot” from other devices if you needed to.  So given I have been using and gifting Streamlight Lights for over a decade, when it comes to a compact model I am going to stick with them. To be fair I do think the AAA Olight is a good light too, for about the same price.  Either is honestly fine.

That said the Streamlight MicroStream is bright and powerful it uses C4 LED tech and is shockproof with a 30,000 hour lifetime.  The MicroStream provides 28 lumens, and a beam distance of 52 meters. Powered by one AAA alkaline battery the MicroStream LED pen light has a run time of 2.25 hours. It is super light at just a hair over an ounce in weight and it will fit those “lame assed non pockets they put in girl jeans“.

And to be fair I can see where many folks would like a more compact light and 2.25 hours (at max power) is plenty of run time for an EDC light.  One last thing, they do make a rechargeable version.  It is 30 vs. 19 bucks and I want you to think about something.  Say you are a good prepper and you have a charger and a bunch of rechargeable AAs and AAAs in your black out kit.  Okay, so why do you need a rechargeable light then?

The world of the day is standardize!  If you plug in the light and charge a Lithium ION “pack” that is simply a Lithium ION AAA battery in a wrapper, how is it different then simply dropping in one of your own fully charged Lithium ION batteries?  Here is the answer, you have to open the light, that is the only difference.

So if you want to spend 12 bucks more for a plug in light go ahead but as my rechargeable batteries are only a few feet from my desk I will stick to “rolling my own”, all because of what?  Standardization.

So if you have to deal with those “lame assed non pockets they put in girl jeans” or just want a more compact EDC light, give the Streamlight MicroStream a try and I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Remember you can always find all of our reviews at TspAz.com

P.S. – I did want to say something about the Olight AAA version.  It has one major advantage, it can be extremely bright, but you’ll pay or it in run time.  As it will drop to 21 minutes.  This is why light makers have gone to special batteries to eek out a bit more at top brightness.  The Olight does have two settings, it will run for a whopping 16 hours on low, but you are only going to get 5 lumens at that setting, in other words your cell phone is brighter.  I would personally recommend the Streamlight, cuz well I just did.  But if you want uber compact and super bight and to still stick with a standardized battery, check out the Olight AAA.

Folks we are in bad shape in so many ways, the POTUS is honestly totally lost in what is left of his mind and half of us will still vote for him, the economy is on life support, the elite want WWIII and most of the people in our country have no idea what is going on or how we got here in the first place.  What can be done?  You damn sure can’t vote it away, so you had better prepare for the worst and hope for the best.  In this situation though the best isn’t that great.  Winter is coming and I don’t mean the season.

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 15, 2023 by Jack SpirkoSeptember 15, 2023 4

SPECIAL NOTICE – The release date for the tickets in this announcement is correct, Saturday Sept. 16th at 9:30 AM CST.  Yes I mentioned on air it may be Saturday the 9th, but the final decision based on logistics and giving people time to be prepared is the 16th.

Well folks we are going to do it again, get a bunch or really cool people together for 3.5 days at Nine Mile Farm (our location is near Azle Texas and about 30 minutes drive from DFW Airport).

As always the food, fun and learning will all be off the hook.  TSP-Fall-23 will run this year from Nov. 1st – 5th.  On the dates the 2nd-4th are the actual workshop days.  Students that camp usually set up that Wednesday after 2PM and we have beers and grilled brats and sausages that night and get to know one another.

Non campers are also encouraged to come Wednesday afternoon/evening if they are in town by then.  Sunday we ask everyone to be off our property by 10:30 AM so we can rest and put our lives back together.

But Wait Theres More!

There is a reason that every year 60% or more of our guests are returning to their 2nd, 3rd hell some their 10th or even more TSPC Workshops.  Unlike a typical workshop where all you do is have classes TSPC is an experience, one that changes lives and entertains the hell out of you at the same time.  Let’s start with the food!

Here’s is the Planned Menu this Year…

Thursday

  • Breakfast – (fruit, breakfast bars, coffee, etc.)
  • Lunch – Center Cut Pork Chops, Garden Salad, Celery & Sage Stuffing
  • Dinner – Rotisserie Chicken, Roasted Potatoes, Buttered Corn
    `

Friday

  • Breakfast Tacos with Bacon & Nine Mile Farm Duck Eggs, Cheese & Toppings
  • Build Your Own Burger Bar with ALL the Fixings
  • Uncle Julio’s Steak & Chicken Fajitas – Cooked on site over charcoal.
    `

Saturday

  • Fresh Biscuits, Jack’s Homemade Sage Breakfast Sausage & Gravy, Scrambled Eggs
  • Chicken Tamales, Jack’s Homemade Chili, Dorothy’s Jalapeño/Cheddar Cornbread
  • Elk & Cheddar Sausage, Rattlesnake & Rabbit Sausage (both from Chef Tim Love), Jack’s Smoked BBQ Pork Shoulder, Cowboy Beans, Roasted Potatoes & Carrots
    `

I’m Not Done Yet

If I had to sum up the value of a TSPC Workshop I could do it with four words, education, food, fun, networking. So let’s talk about the last two now.  Some of the extras we throw in that really add fun and the ability to get to know others include…

  • Friday nights amazing barter blanket experience around the fire  (see this video for more)
  • Karoke in the giant shop building Thursday & Saturday nights (even if you don’t sing this is a blast)
  • Saturday Night Booze Circle Tasting (always themed, sometimes rums, sometimes bourbons, sometimes speciality beers, not yet determined this year)
  • Pick up games like darts & pool (my pool table kind of sucks but we still have fun)
  • Amazing coffee is provided by Nicole Sauce & Holler Roast
  • Everyone is invited to bring items to sell (we don’t set up tables for that but we have “the selling of the things” so you can promote what you have)
    `

Shut up Jack and just tell me when I can sign up already and what will it cost me

Soon!  I plan to open it for registration on Saturday Sept. 16th at 9:30 AM CST.  I am going to drop the link at 9:30 AM in our Telegram Channel, then if it lasts more than about 10 minutes I will post it live on the site, send out emails, etc.  You know what that means right?

Get on our Telegram Channel like now.

Then set a reminder.  I can only imagine how fast this one will go.  Last year it was well under 30 minutes and GONE.

Translation sells out in minutes not hours, certainly not days!

As to cost we have a very slight increase from last year from 550 to 600 dollars.  Given the state of inflation I think we have done well keep the cost as fair as we can.  Keep in mind when we started doing these in 2013 we were charging 500 dollars.

On sign up day I require a 200 dollar deposit by credit or debit card.  The 400 dollar balance is due in cash or crypto when you show up.  If you reserve and have to cancel in the first two weeks as long as I can still sell your spot I give you a refund.

After that the deposit is not refundable (except for true emergencies) and I ask that you simply sell your spot to someone else.  There are almost always willing buyers in the TG group.

Something Extra Special This Year

Okay not only will this be the best one yet I made a great deal to get you guys something very special you can’t get anywhere else, no matter the cost.  As many of you know I got to interview one of my favorite outdoors writers and television personalities recently, Jim Shockey.  Jim is an absolute legend and he has a new book coming out called “They Call Me Hunter” a novel that blends much of his actual life with a fictional storyline.

I have an advanced copy of the book and I can tell you it is amazing.  So you may have guessed by now, every student is getting a copy of the book.  But I AM NOT DONE YET.  I struck a deal with the publisher and all these copies are going to be signed by Jim.  And yet there is more.  They will all be signed and numbered as such…

Jim Shockey
TSP-23
#1 of X

Of course X will be based on the final count and what ever that count is, that is it, all of it, no more, done.  I will have details soon for how you can order an extra copy if you want but EVERY student gets one as part of your cost to attend.  You can find my interview with Jim Here.

Don’t Sleep In!  It is Gonna Sell Out!

Otherwise, again mark your calendar, set an alarm, set two (two is one, one is none) and be ready on Saturday Sept 16th at 9:30 AM CST.  If you are late you won’t make it.  And I will say it again, if you want a shot at this, download the telegram app NOW and join our Telegram Channel.

Also we have a secret Telegram Group you will get after you sign up that ties you into our alumni and gets you important updates before and during the workshop.  This one is really a secret insiders club in and of itself.

P.S. – If you have made some sort of prior arrangements with me (say barter blanked deal or something like that) and have a guaranteed seat this year you wish to use.  Please email me in the next week, I will need to get your signed up before the 16th.  This way I know what I am dealing with as far as ticket inventory.   Email me with TSPC Workshop in the Subject Line.
