Starwest Botanicals Whole Chamomile Flower Tea – Item of the Day

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 21, 2020 by Modern SurvivalMarch 18, 2021

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend. Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is Starwest Botanicals Whole Chamomile Flower which is sold by the pound.  This stuff is awesome, I use it in many of my teas and in my infamous “Three Flowers Blend” for mead. There is a lot to like about this item.  First and this is important to me, these are whole flowers as you can see in the photo above.  I have … Continue reading →

Sadaf Sumac – Item of the Day

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 18, 2020 by Modern SurvivalSeptember 18, 2020

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend. Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is Sadaf Sumac.  Note that this is middle eastern sumac not our native variety here in North America.  While there are some similar characteristics sumac from the Mediterranean and Arabic parts of the world is a different species with a long history of culinary use. Dorothy and I really got hooked on this stuff when we found a recipe for “carrot fries” which are … Continue reading →

Episode-2733- The Case for Bantam Chickens

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 17, 2020 by Modern SurvivalSeptember 17, 2020

I put out a little video yesterday about the progress of our Bantam Chickens at Nine Mile Farm.  I just love the personality of these pint sized chickens and they are coming along nicely.  Someone asked this question in the comments section… Why bantams and not full size chickens? They are small and lay small eggs. I would think that they would be best for someone with limited space? It is a totally reasonable question.  There are really two angles in it though.  One is some reality, they do lay smaller eggs and they are good for someone with limited … Continue reading →

Jason van Gumster does a lot of things. Mostly he make stuff up. He writes, animates, and occasionally teaches. He’s got heavy entrepreneurial tendencies that run nearly as deep as his creative ones, so he has a constant fascination with producing creative content with as much control and independence as possible. This has resulted in him being a big proponent of open source software; nearly everything that he’s produced in the last 20 years – books, animation, graphic design, websites, video, a podcast – is made using Free and open source tools. Resources for today’s show… Follow Life With Jack … Continue reading →

Episode-2731- Liberty By Lifestyle Design

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 15, 2020 by Modern SurvivalSeptember 15, 2020

Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 1:25:20 — 19.5MB)

The world liberty has been elevated to what was once referred to in an old episode of Star Trek a “worship word”.  Yet many seem to not even truly understand what the world liberty means.  They seem to feel it means voting for their side so that only the things they want restricted or taxed are restricted or taxed. Liberty is the freedom to live as you choose until such time as you interfere with the liberty of others.  That and only that is true liberty.  Liberty can’t come from government and government also is not able to defend it.  … Continue reading →

Okay I think this is gonna be the Saturday night dinner this year. Rattle Snake and Rabbit Sausage Elk and Bee Hive Cheddar Sausage Quail Leg Skewers Smoked Brisket Cowboy Beans   Yes we are gonna rock it again.  Here is the thing, some folks miss out on Saturday night.  Reason being they go home early and leave mid day or early evening Saturday to get back home and to their regular lives.  So this is the issue.  I don’t mind doing these awesome dinners for every single person that comes but often up to 10 leave before dinner and … Continue reading →

Holler Roast is Growing – Help Nicole Take it to the Next Level

The Survival Podcast Posted on September 14, 2020 by Modern SurvivalSeptember 14, 2020

Holler Roast Coffee is ready to grow and they are pre-selling coffee and other cool benefits in a crowdfunding campaign, to get this done before the Christmas rush. Back in 2017 when I first met Nicole, she presented her side hustle at my spring workshop. She declared in front of the whole room that she did not want to roast coffee as a full-time business. And at that moment, I saw this look come over her face as if she had just heard herself tell a lie and knew it. And a few weeks later, when I interviewed her on … Continue reading →
