For the last three years I was asked to do a Halloween special centered around a “zombie apocalypse theme”, this is my attempt at doing so. I think the show came out pretty decent, I did learn a lot about doing this type of theater and think perhaps we can do a better version next year. If I had it to do over I would have written out a complete script and provided the outline to the audience in advance.  That would have spurred on more interactive calls, etc. Disclaimer – no zombies were harmed during this recording! A few … Continue reading →

Episode-773- Paleoculture the Original Permaculture

So this week I have been thinking about the paleo lifestyle and how it would fit into a permaculture based system.  Turn out I am not the first person to ask the question and the fit is quite natural.   The last time I spoke on paleo living I brought a lot of the “homesteading components” into it, today I will try to do a bit more. Permaculture isn’t about growing plants and trees, that is one element to it, it is really a methodology for “whole system design”, encompassing all things for human existence.  Some of these include as energy, … Continue reading →

Trevor Van Hemert runs Pedal to Petal a company that picks up food scraps from all over the city of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. Pedal To Petal is a permaculture-based collective of bicycle loving food security activists who are taking direct action to reduce carbon emissions and landfill waste and to feed the soil and the city’s hungry. They do all their pick up and transport via the use of bicycles with zero use of any fossil fuels.  The finished compost is used to grow food in the same city where the components are collected and the compost is produced … Continue reading →

Ben Falk developed Whole Systems Design, as a land-based response to biological and cultural extinction and the increasing separation between people and elemental things. Life as a designer, builder, ecologist, tree-tender, and back country traveler continually informs Ben’s integrative approach to developing landscapes and buildings. His home landscape and the WSD studio site in Vermont’s Mad River Valley serve as a proving ground for the innovative land developments featured in the projects of Whole Systems Design. Ben has studied architecture and landscape architecture at the graduate level and holds a master’s degree in land-use planning and design. He has taught … Continue reading →

Episode-770- Modern Financial Survival

Yesterday I stated that we are about to in effect go into the middle of a financial war.  I am not sure the analogy was fully understood it wasn’t so much about fighting the battle but more about the way that even if good is the end result how many can be harmed in the process. This resulted in a litany of people trying to nit pick about the justification for WWII, why the US prospered after the war, etc.   Such people are literalists that don’t comprehend analogies and tell “ants are socialists”, when you tell them the ant and … Continue reading →

A Zombie Show for Halloween

The Survival Podcast Posted on October 24, 2011 by Modern SurvivalOctober 24, 2011

Well next Monday is Halloween and we have never done a “spoof show” of any kind.  On Monday we will do our first one.  On Monday the 31st, we will do an “Orson Welles” style “Zombie Apocalypse” show. Clearly this show will be just for fun but if a bit of real prepper knowledge comes out of it, so much the better. To pull this off though I need your help!  I need reports, questions and updates about what is happening as the living dead rise from the grave and attack and are beaten back at your Bug Out Locations. … Continue reading →

Episode-769- Listener Feedback on the Economy 10-24-11

Today we are doing a listener feedback show based on emails sent to jack at thesurvivalpodcast.com.  Today though they are all based on the economy and our economic future. I will warn you that today some of the material may be a bit deep, some hard to accept and a few times it may even sound a bit tin foil hat.  The truth is that everything I will tell you today though is factual and will withstand any investigation you desire to put into it. My message today is basically we are about to go into a financial war, a … Continue reading →

Get the Song – What Have You Done

The Survival Podcast Posted on October 21, 2011 by Modern SurvivalJanuary 10, 2012

Greg Yows and I collaberated on this project.  I played the song on a few episodes last week and we are now formally releasing it.  You can get the song for free at Gregg’s site, Revolution Rock and Roll The song came about as Gregg and I were working on “The Revolution is You” for the TSP custom theme.  I had an idea to write a song that started in the American Revolution, up through WWII and to our current day. Gregg took the song a little bit darker than I first imagined, in his words, “I didn’t want to … Continue reading →
