Sub irrigation planter = SIPs. I’ve grown ground nut in them before. Works great, just give them vine supports.

I’ve been looking for something like the Goumi berry for a while now, mostly because our soil is such a wreck and I need a nitrogen fixer that actually gives back something edible. Most people just go for the standard landscaping, but I’d rather have a “food forest” vibe that actually serves a purpose. We’re actually in the middle of planning a full home remodeling project for the main farmhouse, and I’m trying to convince my wife to let me integrate these kinds of unusual perennials right up against the foundation instead of the usual useless shrubs. It just makes more sense to have high-calorie or medicinal plants within arm’s reach if things ever get tight. Jack always talks about redundant systems, and a yard full of “weird” edible plants seems like the ultimate backup plan.
