So since I was out in the field on Monday I figured we would do a listener call in show for today, I have some great questions, please understand if you have asked a question or even a few questions and have not had it answered on the air that my volume of email at this point is barring on the insane.   On any given day 200-300 emails that are either questions, show comment materiel or references to relevant articles are sent in to me, that ammounts to 1400-2100 a week.  I can’t get to everyone but I work hard to get a good snapshot into each show like this.

  • Fun with the Border Patrol and Park Rangers at Big Bend (apparently camo on a manikin is “highly suspicious but not illegal”)
  • Here is an idea a GMO “super mosquito”  but at least it won’t carry malaria
  • The Colony Season Two will begin soon but what is the deal with their invasive facebook application?
  • Is investing in a 401k, 403b, IRA, etc . a good idea right now – this isn’t a yes or no question
  • Can a state legally nullify a federal law, under what circumstances, etc.
  • What can you trade a paperclip for, how about a house
  • Is prepping an enjoyable activity, I think so what about you
  • You can get your investment principle out of a ROTH investment penalty free, I was wrong on this one
  • When making jerky what are you looking for in a cut of meat

I decided to cover a varitey of subjects today and shake things up a bit.  We will talk today about local currency, the Discovery Channel’s show “The Colony”, a simple man who is a hero, more on home defense long arms and an “attack fox” (no I am not kidding about the fox).

  • Your best defense against over penetration is knowledge of your environment and solid training
  • What is a “non dangerous, dangerous animal”?
  • What do we need to know about underestimated wild animals like foxes, coons and coyotes when we live in or travel to rural areas?  Or more and more in many urban areas as well?

Today on The Survival Podcast in the intro segment we do a review of episode two of “The Colony” a new disaster based reality show from The Discovery channel.  After that we do our housekeeping and I tell you about a great sale from Safe Castle LLC on Mountain house and we then move into the topic of getting stated with your prepping or taking it to a new level.

On getting started we start out with the three pillars to forming a modern survival plan, threat probability, threat impact and disaster commonality.

Today we actually have two topics to discuss, first I will give you my initial thoughts on the new reality television series “The Colony“.  This show was a pleasant surprise so far so tune in to get my thoughts on this show that places 10 folks into a true SHTF scenario.

Then I switch gears and get you thinking about your fall gardening projects.  I know it is mid summer, temps are over 100 in many areas and fall seems miles away.  It isn’t!  Many of us are already 14 weeks or less to our first killing frost and need to start acting now.  Others may not be there yet but we need to start planning.  I will tell you want to plant now and how to plan for the big production you can expect at the end of the season as well.
