Episode-279- The Foundational Principle of Modern Survivalism

Today we discuss principle one of modern survival philosophy,

“Everything you do to prepare for disaster should improve your position in life even if nothing ever goes wrong.”

Today I give you the background on where that principle came from, how I was inspired by many already living by it but just not putting it that way yet.  I tell you the story of my slumber during my years of success and what led me to forget what I knew to be true.  How over time many events led me to reconnect with what I was taught about frugality, common sense, preparing and nature from my childhood.

More importantly I will tell you what I discovered about why people don’t prep, why they ignore stark reality and how to use the first principle to reach people who are just looking for something that makes prepping “okay” in their minds.

Episode-195- Will Survivalism Turn You Into A Libertarian?

In my last show I gave a warning, “if you keep practicing survivalism you are going to sooner or later turn into a libertarian”.  I have gotten more then a few questions about what that means.  Is TSP a secret plot to brain wash people into a libertarian mindset sort of like those alien Hulu commercials?  No not at all but there is a reality that once you are self sufficient, well prepared and have the mentality of a survivor the way you view the world will start to change.

Episode-173- Do You Hide Who You Are

If you listen to this podcast you are probabally a survivalist on one level or another.  Some are simple homesteader types that live in the country and try to be self sufficient.  Some are more the sterotype and into beans, bullets and bandaids.  Still others live in urban areas, work typical jobs and just make sure they have some extra food, supplies, etc around incase something goes wrong.

My question though is “do you hide who you are”?  Clearly I can’t, by doing this show I must put myself out there.

Yesterday this show and I were featured in the Sunday Edition of the Fort Worth Star Telegram.  The article prompted a lot of questions from listeners such as “is it really wise to tell people you prep”?  Today’s show discusses that issue and many others stirred up by the article.

If you want to comment on this today is a day where you really may want to listen to the audio of the show first.

Episode-157- The View of Survivalism in the Media vs. Reality

The media’s veiw of survivalism and modern survivalist philosophy are greatly disconnected from realtiy.  Join me today as I discuss a recent episode of the T.V. show “Medium” (yes the show sucks I watched it just for you so tune in) where a survivalist was painted as and eccentric killer.

In my view this media bias is actually quite dangerous and could cause a lot of suffering or even cost lives in the future.  Tune in today to get some thoughts on countering this bias, why it is important to do so and how we can reach people who are starting to ask the magical question, “what if”.

Episode-39- Survivalism Around the Blogosphere

Today I decided to do something a bit different and I have pulled 5 topics currently being discussed by various bloggers. Tune in today to hear my thoughts on the following posts -

1. Government May Have Massive Surveillance Program for Use in “National Emergency” – From The Ignorance is Futile Blog.

Summary - There may be as many as 8 Million Americans that are in a database as a potential threat during a national emergency. The article cites the following – 1. “According to a senior government official…”There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived ‘enemies of the state’ almost instantaneously.”

2. Ramen Noodles as a Food Storage Supplement – From The Survival Blog

Summary – The value and cheapness of Ramen Noodles is offset by they lack of nutritional value. Protect from rodents. Hey why not post your Ramen Noodle recipe ideas in the comments section.

3. Forget Global Warming we may enter a “Little Ice Age” from the Know the Lies Blog

Summary - Sun spot activity is decreasing and while NASA expects a major increase in 2012 even some of their scientists predict a major decline from then into 2015. From 1645 – 1715 we had the Maunder Minimum that was the cause of the Little Ice Age during the “dark ages”. The Armagh observatory predicts a 2 (about 3.5 Fahrenheit) degree decline over the next 20 years.

4. CNN Talks about Peak Oil – from OffGridSurvival.com

Summary - CNN did a story with a video available at the blog about a man in Main that is growing food, storing wood and using alternative energy to prepare for peak oil. An embeded video from CNN shows solar car and homestead put togehter by a really cool guy who is a school teacher in Maine.

5. Major Banks May Fail – from the “Texas Preppers Network”

Summary – Former IMF chief economist Kenneth Rogoff (biw Harvard Professor) stated – “The worst of the global financial crisis is yet to come and a large U.S. bank will fail in the next few months as the world’s biggest economy hits further troubles.”

Mr. Rogogg further stated, “We’re not just going to see mid-sized banks go under in the next few months, we’re going to see a whopper, we’re going to see a big one, one of the big investment banks or big banks”
