I am really excited to welcome Greg Yows to The Survival Podcast.  Greg is a great friend to both the show and me personally.  Together we wrote “The Revolution is You” our show theme.

When asked about himself Greg says,

“I am a simple songwriter. The hippies in the 60s had their “protest” bards in the form of Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Janice Joplin, John Lennon, Joan Baez…the list goes on. Now, I ain’t claimin’ to have their skill. But I have just as much passion for my cause. And that cause is making sure my kids enjoy freedom from the tyrannical, over-taxing, nanny-state governments that are currently plaguing our nation.

I hail from the piney-woods of East Texas where the fishing is amazing but the county was dry. So here I am in Austin, a computer programmer by day and musician at night…cranking out patriot songs between honey-dos, working on my preps, gardening, fishing and taking care of my two kids.”

Ted Lacksonen is a writer and commentator known in the blogosphere as The Country Thinker. He has previously practiced as an attorney for a major international law firm, and worked as a structural designer in the shipbuilding industry. Ted lives in the rolling hills of his home state of Ohio with his wife and son.

Ted joins us today to discuss his recently released novel The Eagle Has Crashed, which is a near-future novel that is set in 2029-30. It is the story of the day that America’s national debt leads to an economic meltdown.

The Eagle has Crashed documents the lives of several ordinary Ohioans as the nation falls apart around them. As the situation worsens it brings out the best – and worst – in Ohioans and Americans across the land.

I will be the first to tell you my “predictions” if you wish to call them such are far more long term then a year in most instances.  I do figure though that now is a good time to talk about the coming year of 2012 and what we can and should expect to see happening over the next year.

My hope today is not really to do a modern Nostradamus impersonation, it is more to help you look into the coming year with both caution and optimism.

2012 has a lot of nonsense attached to it as “the end of the world” and while most people don’t believe that, it has had an effect.  Many people have been open to their vulnerabilities by the hype around 2012 for the last few years.  Many in the preparedness space are poised to capitalize on this manufactured paranoia.

My hope is today’s show will put some perspective into this nonsense and lead you to the logical conclusion, no one really knows what is going to happen but working for a better future is the best course of action.

  • “The most important election in history” – meh not really
  • Another almost government shut down a month before the election
  • Gingrich looses in Iowa and begins a terminal spiral
  • Iran becomes the “most dangerous threat” on the news and in debates

  • Downward class migration continues but the message is “the economy is improving”
  • Unemployment will drop, people will still have less money

I did my very best to double up on shows during my vacation but could not quite do enough of them to cover the entire period of time.  So today we take a look back to Oct. 30, 2008.  Much of this has come to pass and some is still in play.  I would love to get a good dialog going in today’s comment to fuel a future predictions show as well.  So tell me what you think,what you are concerned about next and let me know how you think I did on this show as far as accuracy to date.

Today Stewart Rhodes founder of Oath Keepers joins us on The Survival Podcast to discuss the fight to restore our Constitutional Republic to its roots.

Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving and prior service military, peace officers, and firefighters who will fulfill the oath they swore to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God.

Oath Keepers believes that our oath is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and will not obey unconstitutional (and thus illegal) and immoral orders, such as orders to disarm the American people or to place them under martial law and deprive them of their ancient right to jury trial.

The Oath Keepers have drawn a line in the sand. They will not “just follow orders.” The Oath Keeper motto is “Not on our watch!”

When I talk to folks that have not listened to TSP and they ask me what I do today I generally start with “I run a podcast”, many then need to have me explain what a podcast is.  Often there is disbelief that this is actually what I do for a living but soon the questions begin about “well what is your show about?”

I often soft sell it at first and start with, “I do a show about self reliance and self sufficiency, about how to do everything from stay out of debt to growing your own food and being prepared for things like natural disasters”.

I generally now find myself with one of three types of people…

  • The true the world is going to end believer – They are the worst of the three!  Generally I start hearing about The Book of Revelation, etc.
  • The prepper/modern survivalist – recently some of these types have even gone, OH YOUR THAT GUY!  This is kind of cool when it happens.
  • The person who hasn’t really thought about it.  – I love meeting these people!  Most want to know more if for no other reason that the fact that I don’t have a j-o-b just doesn’t make sense

Eventually though we get into some level of philosophical discussion and unless the person is a listener they are always some what surprised by my view.  Most want to know why I have the beliefs I do, why I don’t fully trust the system but don’t write it fully off either and why even though I am a “survivalist” I seem so moderate and well, normal.  I am not sure how “normal” I really am but I figured if total strangers wanted to know about this stuff than perhaps your guys would as well.

Join me today as I tell you about my life and why I think the way I do including…

  • My family was poor, but I never knew that to be the case
  • I grew up in the woods and holding a rifle
  • I have grown food almost my entire life (took a break in the Army)
  • I served in the military in the 3rd World
  • I became “successful” in the main stream world
  • I am a “trouble shooter” (aka problem solver)
  • I analyze anything I find interesting
  • I remember the details of things, like in a freaky sort of way
  • I am never satisfied that I have learned enough
  • I know the reality of how fragile life and life styles are
  • To me liberty is the most precious thing a man can have
  • I gave up on political affiliation
  • I have given up as much of my personal prejudice as I am humanly capable of
  • I accept that I am at times going to be completely wrong
  • I know I can’t predict the future but I can be prepared for it anyway
  • I believe above all else that I am in control of my life, I know I am NOT a victim
  • I recognize modern slavery as self inflicted
  • I want to help others but understand in the end they must choose for themselves
  • I most want people to know WHY they believe WHAT they believe

Today we take a moment to pay attention to a variety of current events that tell us why preparing is so important.  We won’t be pretending to know the future today, simply observing the current situations and trends they show us.  Today’s show may also seem a little political at times but ONLY because politicians are effecting our current and future stability.

My goal during most of the political stuff today is to focus on math and fact, what you believer politically is irrelevant in the face of math and fact.  Please keep that in mind and if you get bent out of shape because I seem in sync with a Democrat today or a Republican, that I am a libertarian and would like to see all of them replaced.  But when a person is correct they are correct, I will leave judging their motivations to you.

The key is today we focus on events that have destroyed or are destroying lives, decisions that are heading our nation toward bankruptcy and the things that actually can be done to deal with the consequences of both natural and man made disasters.  We get our fill of both today.
