Globe Electric 48W 360° Work Light – Item of the Day

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Item of the day is the Globe Electric 48W 360° Work Light.  I LOVE THESE LIGHTS.  Really I do.  For a long time like many I used typical stand based directional work lights like these for this need.  They do work, they are bight but in many ways they suck.

I mean these lights are fine if you are in a shop and point them under the hood of a car, at a work bench or something like that.  But for ambient light in a work area they are kind of useless.  They only really light up the area you point them at and worse when you turn around, they blind you.

I found the Globe Electric Work Light when my buddy David brought two of them over for one of our workshops.  We try to provide lighting between the outbuildings so people don’t break their necks, so they can wash their evening dishes, etc.  Until I found these we would attempt to elevate the directional lights, etc.  It worked but it was not very good.

We got these and two of them basically turn the area into a well lit work area, and that is outside with no reflection.  In a shop building they provide awesome light.

But think about the prepper applications, one of these fully lights 2-3 rooms if you are talking open concept, say kitchen, dining and living area, certainly well enough to get around, not stub your toe etc in a black out, and it does it all on 48 watts.  So it will run a LONG time on a few deep cycle batteries in a back up system.

And when I had a farm hand working for me in the short hours of winter I called it his “slave light” much to his bemusement.  Because we would just run an extension cord to the area he was working in and it was plenty of light to unload trucks, mulch garden beds, etc.

Oh and one more thing for this little multi-tasker, they are great for when you need to get more light into shooting a video.

For 99 bucks these are simply the best damn work light I have ever found.  If you go night fishing and have battery back up or an inverter man these things are amazing for that as well as lighting up a camping area.  And yea they attract bugs at night, so all the bugs go to the light and you are 25 feet away from them!

Personally I don’t know why more companies don’t embrace this format.  These are not 100% perfect but they are damn good and I still have one I stole from David over three years ago and it still works as good as the day I um, “acquired it”.

Remember you can always find all of our reviews at TspAz.com

P.S. – Don’t feel sorry for David, he has emptied my good liquor cabinet of more than enough to cover the 99 bucks.  As evidence of that I present this!  That was a 30 year old tawny port, looted while I was on vacation.  Yea and he also ran off with about 8 pounds of my dry sausage and jerky and fed it to himself and his dog in Alaska!  True story.  We all need more friends like this.

Etekcity 4 Pack of LED Lanterns – Item of the Day

eteklanternsEvery day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is Etekcity’s 4 Pack of LED Lanterns.  These things are an incredible value and are the result of a lot of research.   I have previously reviewed The Streamlight Siege Lantern.  And I still think it is the highest quality LED lantern on the market.

It is also 26-114 dollars based on the options you pick.  Even at the lowest priced option if you wanted one for every room of a 8 room house, you are looking at 200 bucks.  Frankly for this type of thing, it is over kill.  I wanted an affordable solution for every room lighting during an extended blackout.

I started looking around and dozens of companies are marketing these little pop up lanterns with minor differences.  The housings are almost identical.  Some are very inexpensive and some cost almost as much as The Siege, none are as good though.

Well I love Etekcity which has a lot of really cool stuff much of which I have reviewed in the past like their Thermal Gun, Power Failure Lights and Remote Control Electrical Outlets.  So I checked and they have this four pack for only $22.99 with free shipping.  This pack is an Amazon best seller with over a 4000 reviews and an average of 5 stars.

But I always check the one star reviews before picking an item.  Many times you can tell said reviews are written by idiots.  In this case, however; they bothered me.  Almost all of them say they got one that didn’t work out of the box and then never worked again.  So I began checking other options, heck it is almost like ever single brand of these things are clones.   They all have great reviews, a few bad reviews and all the different ones have almost the exact same complaint, dead on arrival or after one use.

So I contacted Etekcity who has great service and said basically that it is understandable at this price point and selling so many a few will have problems, but what is your return/replacement policy and this is what I got back in return, within an hour by the way!

Hello Jack,

Thank you for reaching out to us and thank you for all the feedback we appreciate it. Honestly we sell hundreds if not a thousand of these lanterns a day and we do have problems with them, they are not perfect.

Typically the main issue is a little toggle switch in the base that likely during shipping breaks unfortunately and once in awhile the top of the lantern is cracked or loose again probably due to shipping.

Once the lantern makes it to the customer and they arrive in good order we never hear from the customer because they seem to not fail with normal use.

We usually only hear from the customers the moment they open the package and find the damage and then we immediately send out a replacement and then all lanterns come with a 1 year warranty.

These are not the worlds greatest lantern but for around $6 each, they are one of amazons best sellers and we think for the price they are the best around.

thank you

Okay so every single one of those one star reviews are people that simply could  have gotten a free replacement, on a $5.75 product?  Honestly this is why I have recommended so many things from Etekcity.

Talk about honesty in a nut shell they said, “hey look when you sell this many products of this type some will have problems, but we stand by and replace them”, what more could you ask for for about 6 bucks?

With that I was sold, I got two sets, we have them in our black out kits and if one fails, I don’t care I have 8!  That said all of mine have worked just fine and were in perfect shape when they got here.  But this was important to me, I wanted to be sure that if you did have a problem, Etekcity would fix it and I wanted to give you a lot cost option for back up lighting.  And hey even at this stupid cheap price, batteries are included!  Please consider that even cheap ass Rayovac Batteries are about 8 bucks for a 12-Pack.

And these do that, they will give you 12 full hours of light off three measly AA batteries.  So to me at the cost and for what they do this is the best deal in back up LED lighting for your house and your BOK (Black Out Kit).    So I really recommend you pick up at least one Etekcity’s 4 Pack of LED Lanterns if you don’t have that base covered already.  They seem like a cool gift idea as well.

Remember you can always find all of our reviews at TspAz.com

P.S. – I have noticed a few negative reviews complaining of leaking batteries ruining these lanterns.  Here is my rule for batteries, never store them in your devices for long periods of time.  I don’t care if the device is expensive or cheap, I don’t care of the batteries are generic or top brand, just don’t do it.

We keep flashlights (mostly D-Cell Maglites) around the house, we use them all the time.  Used devices never seem to have this problem.  When they start to weaken we replace them.

In our BOK we keep our devices and with them a ziplock bag with 4 sets of batteries per device in the bag.  We use our power failure lights and flashlights to retrieve our BOK and simply put the batteries in at that point and time.

Note that it is true that battery manufacturers are required by law to replace any device that leaking batteries destroy.  That doesn’t help in the middle of a black out though does it?  Simply put any device that is not used often, take the batteries out of it, store them with it and save yourself the headache.

P.S.S. – Since I first reviewed this item in 2016 we have sold hundreds of them, given they are four packs that is thousands of individual lanterns.  Total complaints I have received in that time is zero.  I still have 8 of these as does my son, they all work and never seem to run out of battery life.  They do now have a new model with a “dimmer switch” which should extend battery life even further.

This set is 28.99 a four pack and has the same warranty.  I don’t have any experience with it and I do have to say two things.  Given the company and all their other products it should be great.  That said when you add something to an electronics board, it isn’t really an add, it is a complete “respin” in other words a new product.  So you can’t expect that it will be just as good or better, it might be but it is in the end a new product.

Litom 8 LED Solar Wireless Security Light – Item of the Day

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is Litom 8 LED Solar Wireless Security Lights.   I previously reviewed the 20 LED version and promised a follow up of its little brother.  Well here it is, these are excellent and very much a half sized version of the larger light, with one big difference.

The key difference is where as the 20 LED version is powered by a single 18650 Lithium Ion Battery the 8 LED version is powered by a single 14500 Lithium Ion Battery which has a capacity of 800mAh 3.7V.  Clearly running less light requires less battery so this makes sense.  In any even with the super efficiency of LEDs this is plenty of light.

Fully charged I got 8 hours out of them in steady on high mode.  They got though the night fully on low power mode and frankly I use them on motion sensor mode only, and that is the main thing I want out of them anyway and it makes the most sense to me.

As previously mentioned I ordered 4 of them and put them around my duck pen on the fence on the western side where we had most issues with predators approaching.  The entire east side is covered by the 20 LED version for our benefit during evening and night visits.

I have now had them working for about two weeks and no issues.  They will definitely deter predators as none like light suddenly on them.  They also paid off a few days ago when my young farm hand screwed up one of his tasks (yet again) and grounded out our electric fence wires.  The lights made the fault easy to find and even easier to correct.

Since the first time I reviewed these lights I have installed 4 more of them around my garden pond, I have them set to full power mode and always on once darkness comes.  They do a fantastic job of setting a great mood at the pond and attract bugs for the fish to eat.  I have been outside as late as 4am and noticed they were still on.  So far with 12 deployed only one has had its battery go bad, which is impressive for no name batteries.

The other difference is the price, as they are smaller they cost less.  Where as the 20 LED ones are 34.99 for a two pack the smaller 8 LED model is 46.99 for a four pack, just a bit over half the price.  They are also available in units of one if you only need one or two.

They both work exactly the same with three modes…

  1.  Steady On Dim – The lights come on at dark at about half power (200ish lumens), they will last 6-8 hours of steady on before draining the batteries.  Of course as a solar light that will be based on how well they charge the day before.  In this setting they are plenty bright to see where you are going.  They also switch to bight mode when they sense motion.
    ~
  2. Steady On Bright – The lights come on at dark at full power (440 lumens), they will last 4-6 hours of steady on before draining the batteries.  Of course once again as a solar light that will be based on how well they charge the day before.  In this setting they are very bright for a solar powered light.
    ~
  3. Motion Sensor Mode – The lights will charge during the day and come on at night when they detect motion.  The manufacturer says they will detect motion up to 26 feet away.  My testing confirms this, of course how high you mount them, what is in the way, etc. will effect this distance.  This is my preferred mode and with the power the batteries hold you will never have a dead light unless the batteries have given up the ghost and need replacing.

So which is right for your needs.  Well the little ones are damn bright but the light only carries so far.  They are best for areas where you just need to see what is going on, or for use as security and predator protection devices.

The 20 LED models are as you would expect twice as bright, so I have one at our front gate to the property, and one at the front of the house.  And two by the pool to light that area and the area at the main gate to the duck pen.  The 8 LEDs would be fine in the second area but for our gate and where we unload our vehicles I would stick to the 20s.

Litom also makes a huge 54 LED Model that I am sure is very bright and based on their other products I am sure it works well, it just seems a bit of an eyesore in the day time to me?  But if you need a lot of light check it out.

Otherwise if you just want to light up some areas with motion lights and want maximum bang for your buck with out sacrificing quality check out the Litom 8 LED Solar Wireless Security Lights today.

Kingbo Reflector 45W LED Grow Light – Item of the Day

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Note – This is an encore item and one I am bringing around for the second time this year the reason is they just dropped the price to under 29 bucks.  Since I first reviewed this item over 700 of them have been purchased by TSP members and I have only had 100% positive feedback on them.  At the time in my view they are the best deal on grow lights you can find.  It is getting later in the season for indoor plant starting but I am still getting questions about it.  After using these for two years for starts I still think they are the best deal on the market.

We are also headed into the fall and winter gardening season, time to get those greens, broccoli, etc plants started before it is too late.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the Kingbo Reflector 45W LED Grow Light.  I just discussed this item yesterday on the show but I am so impressed with the value of it I am featuring it for the TspAz item of the day.

To grow well plants need full spectrum lighting and as LED technology has advanced it has become the go to choice of professionals in the indoor farming market.  Not only does it grow plants with greater vigor than florescent lighting it has a massive cost savings in electrical use and LEDs last a long longer so the longer equipment life cycle further drives down total cost.

Still the cost of quality LED grow lights has been quite high and it has held back the small time and hobby gardener for quite a while.  Recently some low cost lights have come along and worked okay but were made so cheaply that they would often fail in 90-180 days for many users.  And with that any savings was gone.

Over the past two years a company called Kingbo began producing some smaller LED grow lights and developed a good reputation with them, but they were two small to be useful to me for starting flats of seeds.  When they came out with the Kingbo Reflector 45W LED Grow Light I was pretty happy but figured I would wait a while and let others try it out and see what kind of reputation it had after some use by the market.

It has now been around about 9 months and seems to have maintained a good reputation.  I also like that they offer a full 12 month warranty and a 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee.

The big thing I like is how well it works, see the video below of one youtuber who tested his on basil and watermelon.  When you hear me talk about healthy and stocky seedlings this is what I am talking about.  I like this light so much that I recently ordered 4 of them for my own seed starting this year.  I’ll be putting together my system and sharing it with you soon.

In any event if you are looking for a great grow light to start your own plants indoors, of do indoor farming with a grow tent, check this one out, at 29 dollars with 4.6 stars with over 160 reviews it is hard to beat on the current market.   I do expect over the years for this technology to continue to improve and become more affordable, but at present time the Kingbo Reflector 45W LED Grow Light is my current top choice of what is available.  I have waited long enough to adopt LED grow light technology.

Nebo 6350 Larry Work Light – Item of the Day

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the Nebo 6350 Larry Work Light.  I have to say this is one of  the most unique ways I have ever come to learn about a product.

I received an email from a guy that said he found one of these up in a drop ceiling doing some work at a customers building.  Given it was long abandoned with dead batteries he took it home.  Found that it took 3 AAA batteries and popped a set in, his first thought were “man this thing is bright”, his second thought was I wonder how much they cost.  A simple web search led him to find this amazing little light is only about 8 bucks.  He then emailed me about it.

I ordered two, and now I will be ordering more.  This little thing is just slick, super light weight and fits in a shirt pocket easily enough.  The base is flat so it will stand up on any flat surface and the clip has a magnet so it will both stick to metal or you can hang it on anything convenient in the area.

Many years ago (like in the mid 90s) I did a lot of cabling work in buildings for computer systems, I can tell you exactly why this thing was up in a ceiling, it would be GOLDEN for work like that!

How bright is this thing, try 170 lumens with only three measly AAA batteries.  To really get how bright that is see the video below.

One note, for some reason the description of this light says it is made with aluminum and that the base is magnetic.  There are definitely errors there.  The body is a good quality plastic and the magnet is in the clip not the base.  I checked and there are other colors of this light on Amazon, there are also like 4 packs of various colors.  None of those listings have these errors.

So why am I linking to the one with errors?  First because I do believe it is an error not a deception.  I have learned that this light is very well known in the electronics and computer world so I doubt they are trying to trick anyone.

The bigger reason is because this one is the BEST PRICE I can find, that is why.  The price on this is 8.53 with free shipping.  All the other single listings are over 9 bucks.  So this is simply the best deal.

Well unless you want 4?  Pretty close to the same price but you can get a 4 pack in 4 different colors 32.99 with free shipping, which is 8.24  piece.  So the 4 pack would save you $1.13 on four.  Not huge but a buck is a buck and likely you are going to want 4 of these things, I think they should be in every tool box, tackle box, range box and glove box personally.

So whether you just want to pick up 1 or 2 for 8.53 a piece, or you want to get a 4 Pack for 32.99 check out the Nebo 6350 Larry Work Light, it deserves a place in your kit and on your homestead.

MagLite LED 3 D-Cell Flashlight – Item of the Day

magliteEvery day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the MagLite LED 3 D-Cell Flashlight.  I absolutely love this light for so many reasons.  The only thing that would make it better is if it came in a 4 cell model.  For some reason (perhaps over driving the LED) they do not make a 4 or 6 cell version of this light in LED, though you can get those in incandescent.

I was very excited when the first version of this light came out, until I got one, bluntly it sucked.  It would start out bright and fade over time, turn it off and wait it would be bright again for say 30 seconds and start fading again.

I was pretty much done with LED tech from MagLite at that point.  Then I heard they fixed the issues which was related to heat build up of the bulb in gen one.  I gave them another try and now I own over a half dozen of these.  There is one in the door of both vehicles, one in my night stand, one near the front and back door, and two in our black out kit.

This light is rugged and it just works, and you get very long battery life with the LED light.  I actually carry its little brother, the MagLite 2 C-Cell LED Flashlight in our BOBs as this one is a bit big for that application.

As always I am big on quality to value ratio.  I am a guy taht will spend 500 dollars on a one of a kind knife, I am not cheap but an item like this isn’t something you have one of, you have many of them.  They are not just a source of light but also a HIGHLY effective impact weapon, especially when you use the light to blind an attacker just before dropping the hammer on his nose with the handle.  In the end the MagLite LED 3 D-Cell Flashlight is a hell of a value.

For the ones you keep in your car you may want to add the Bust A Cap Glass Breaker and it can break more than just glass, I am just sayin.

Streamlight Stylus Pro Flashlight – Item of the Day

streamliteEvery day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the Streamlight Stylus Pro LED Pen Flashlight.  This is my EDC light, sure there are better and far more expensive tac lights, but the beauty of this light is multifold.

First it uses standard AAA batteries.  Not some special form factor that is hard to find.  In our home we have good quality AA and AAA batteries on hand at all times along with enloop rechargeable batteries in both sizes.

Second it is cheap, as in under 20 bucks on Prime, I keep one in my night stand with my bigger lights, so when I misplace my EDC one or more likely give it away, I have a second one to replace it with.

Third it is rugged, if you check the Amazon reviews you will see one guy lost his for a year, found it buried in mud and leaves and after a year it still worked.

Fourth it is strong enough to use as a defensive too, basically as a small kubaton.  You have to know the techniques for that to be effect but it works quite well.

Long time listeners will tell you that I have been recommending this little light for over 5 years now, and until I find a better value, I will continue to do so.  I believe in having what you need in the best quality possible with the highest value to that quality.

The other thing I believe is EDC means EVERY DAY CARRY, it isn’t MDC, or SDC, most or some day carry.  This little light is so thin and just slides in a pocket to the rear and sits there, you forget you have it on you at times.  That means you will carry it and that means you will have it when you need it.

In short the Streamlight Stylus Pro LED Pen Flashlight is a winner and it makes a great gift.  I have bought at least a dozen over the years, carried them all and eventually given them to listeners and I am sure all of those are still in service.

The only down sides are first the finish will wear off in time especially if you carry it with keys, a knife, etc.  But for the price to you really care?  The other is the little canvas holster.  While well built I find it useless!

Litom Solar 20 LED Motion Sensing Security Light – Item of the Day

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the Litom Solar 20 LED Security Lights.  I have been looking for a solar powered motion activated security light to recommend for quite awhile.  I definitely wanted to find one using LED lights as well for power efficiency.

The issue is most of what I had checked out up till now has been junk.  I decided to give these ones from Litom a shot.  Litom makes a variety of sizes from small 8 LED ones up to really big ones with 54 LEDs.  I choose the 20 LED model for a balance of size and brightness.  Please note that while all of Litom’s products seem to have good reviews and the reviews check out as trustworthy at Fakespot.com, I have only personally used the 20 LED models so far, so that is all I can 100% vouch for.

There are two ares of my property I am lighting up with these, one is out front by my gate and the area where we pull our vehicles in to unload after dark at times.  We have a really great porch light you can just leave on that comes out at dark with a sensor, but it is still dark out where we pull our vehicles in and the walk way to the house can be pretty dark too.  That area gets the two I bought to test them out.

I just ordered a second set to light up the area around my pool deck, that is the pathway out to the duck holding area.  We often have to go out there after dark and these will make that a bit safer and more convenient.

I am also planning to trial the 8 LED ones because they are more cost effective and add them as an additional security measure for my ducks by placing them around their holding area pointed into the field where our foxes usually approach from.  While the electric fence has worked well this seems like cheap additional insurance.  While predators often get desensitized to steady light, a light that comes on when they approach sets off their danger signals.

These lights have three modes, my test set works well in all of them.  They are…

On the batteries, a few reviewers report having their lights installed for over a year and that they are still working well and have not required any maintenance.  One reason for this is instead of being powered by double or tripple A’s as most such lights are, these are powered by a single 18650 Lithium Ion Battery.  If they ever need replacing or you simply need 18650s for any use, these are the best ones I have ever found, you will pay more for them but again they are the best far and away from anything else I have tried.  They are the Eastshine E35U.

Let’s talk about where these lights don’t make sense and that is basically anywhere in full shade all day long.  For instance I would love to put them on my back porch, several in fact in the walk way to the garage, but they just won’t work well there because it is fully shaded all day.

Other wise I feel these lights do double duty, they provide lighting so you can see what you are doing and an added measure of security.  It isn’t just foxes that don’t like lights coming on when they are on the prowl, two legged rats tend to not like them either.  So check out the Litom Solar 20 LED Security Lights today and save yourself from tripping over that bike your kid left out and keep your place more secure at the same time.

Etekcity LED Night Light / Flashlight: Rechargeable Emergency Light – Item of the Day

These are by far my favorite Power Failure Lights.

These are by far my favorite Power Failure Lights.

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the Etekcity LED Night Light / Flashlight: Rechargeable Emergency Light.

I have tried dozens of brands of these types of lights over the years, they are all useful while they last.  Generally at some point the over charge and stay on even when they should be off.

I have never been happy with any of them long term until I found these from Etekcity.

I have been running these now for over a year in a half with no issues, they work and just keep on working.  The only down side is they take up an entire outlet.  I have changed a few of my outlets to quads to deal with that, I like them that much.

They also have motion sensors so when you walk by them in the dark they turn on and go back off after no motion is detected for 30 seconds. This prevent stubbed toes in dark hallway, great for night bathroom trips too, with out lighting up the entire house.

They are plug and play, you don’t have to configure anything. You an pick them up and take them with you like a flashlight.  Oh and the most common complaint in the small minority of negative reviews?  Well, they are too bright, yea really.

If you have kiddos man you need these, when the lights go out kids get scared.  Now it isn’t a big deal when you are right next to them, but how about Billy is playing in his room, you are in the shower with soap in your eyes and bam, lights out.  Billy is crying, you are naked, you have soap in your eyes and you can’t see for more than one reason, fun stuff huh?

Now imagine you have one of these in the hall way, one in Billy’s room and one in the kitchen, lights go out, all of these come on.  Now you need to get to your black out kit, well you just pick it up and take it with you.

I love the one in my kitchen!  If I get up from the bed while I was reading for say a drink, I get to the kitchen it comes on, I can see to get a water or what have  you, and the 30 second stay on is plenty long enough to get back to our room with viability.  So check out the Etekcity LED Night Light / Flashlight: Rechargeable Emergency Light set today.

Your kids and your toes will thank you for it.  And at only 29 bucks for a twin pack they come out to under 15 bucks a piece.  As to quality well then have 4.5 out of 5 stars with close to 300 reviews you know they work well.  Oh and again keep in mind that most of the low star reviews are people bitching that they are too bright, you know Ron White would say about that right?

Remember you can always find all of our reviews at TspAz.com

PS – The Ron White link above comes with an adult language warning.  I will also say for some it may need a Trigger Warning so make sure you locate the nearest “Safe Space” before clicking the link if this applies to you.

Streamlight Stylus Pro USB Rechargeable Light – Item of the Day

streamlight

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is the Remember you can always find the Streamlight Stylus Pro USB Rechargeable Light.  Any long term follower of my podcast and blog will know I am a huge fan of the original Streamlight Stylus Pro.  I have been recommending that model for more than 5 years.

Well during our recent workshop a guy walks up to me and shows me this one.  It is basically everything that is wonderful about the original but it is rechargeable with any USB port.  It does cost more, coming in at about 41 dollars vs. the original at about 21 dollars.  So the question is, is the convenience of rechargeable and savings on batteries worth the difference in cost?

The lithium ion battery will give you 3.5 hours of light on one charge where as the original will give you 6.5 hours on one set of alkaline batteries.  Call that half as good, but, the lithium battery will have a life span of about 300 recharges, or 150 sets of AAA alkaline batteries.  That would be about 75 dollars in AAA based on bulk pricing of Duracell AAAs.

That gives us a cost of 96 dollars on the original compared to 42 on the rechargeable.  A 54 dollar savings.  If you do wear it out you have a few options.

The best is to buy the replacement lithium ion battery that Streamlight offers for this, it runs 15 bucks.  The battery pack though is essentially two lithium ion AAAs in a solid pack, this means yes you could just drop some rechargeable AAAs in it and rock on.  Or you can drop in any AAAs as a stop gap.  Yes while you can’t recharge it with regular old alkaline batteries, they will run it just fine.  This means you have multiple options and I love that.

So which one do I recommend now?  Frankly the one you prefer, they are both outstanding lights and represent outstanding value.  So check out the Streamlight Stylus Pro USB Rechargeable Light or the original Streamlight Stylus Pro today.
