I have had a lot of requests to do a show bout handguns and selection there of.  I have actually been reluctant to do it for a few reasons.  First that no subject is more full of opinion and more opinions that don’t really matter than this subject.  Many guns and many calibers are so close in performance that debating one over the other has little meaning.

Next is that Eric Shelton does a great show almost exclusively devoted to handguns called The Handgun Podcast.  With more than 130 episodes of that show odds are you can hear more about handguns then you need to know, more importantly I don’t like to just redo the work of others.

Lastly is that to me choosing the right handgun is in many ways highly personal, yet after much consideration about how to make this show more than just explanations of a few common calibers and the difference between a revolver and a semi auto I think I am ready to do what I can to help you on your quest for the right handgun for you.

I don’t do a lot of firearms centric podcasts simply because there are a lot of great podcasts about guns and their use, training and customization.  Yet it is a major component to modern survival philosophy so today I attempt to bring some practicality to that subject.

Today in the intro segment we discuss the 33 million dollar fine to Bank of America and why it pushishes their shareholders (whom it is supposed to protect) and doesn’t punish the company at all.  We also discuss a small group of senate democrats that recently stood up for the second amendment.

I have been getting a lot of questions and suggestions to do a show on guns and the basic assortment of “survival firearms” or home defense firearms. So today I decided to put out a show with some basic thoughts on a initial gun collection. Today we discuss topics such as

  • The most versatile of all weapons – the shotgun
  • The advantages of the 20 gauge, the 12 gauge and how they compare
  • Thoughts on the 30-06 perhaps the perfect round for all around use
  • The tried and true 1911 as a great proven handgun
  • The 38 compact revolver as a great carry gun
  • Choosing the right gun and the concept of renting guns at the range before buying
  • Getting proper training if you haven’t already
  • Individual responsibility with gun ownership and use
  • The difference between a right and a privilege and why lisenceing gun ownership is counter to the Constitution
  • The importance of the NRA and State Rifle Associations
  • Gun ownership as a “civil right”
  • The “core four” of guns – Shotgun, 22 Rifle, Handgun and Centerfire Rifle

I will do more on guns in the future but plan to keep the podcast varied about many subjects. If guns aren’t your thing don’t worry we will have a brand new topic tomorrow.
