Episode-1581- Jim Steele on Challenging the Global Warming Myth

Jim Steel Former California State Biologist Raises Serious Counter Points to Modern AGW Theory

Jim Steele Former California State Biologist Raises Serious Counter Points to Modern AGW Theory

Jim Steel is a former environmental educator and scientist who began his career in 1983.  In 1983 San Francisco State University’s biology department wanted to close the Sierra Nevada Field Campus and use the savings to support more molecular and genetic research. In contrast the Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, Dr. James Kelley, was an avid supporter of field stations.

Dr Kelley understood that students must immerse themselves in the environment they are studying. Otherwise they would be forever misled by limited observations and the resulting bad models.

Although Jim Steele was just completing his Masters Degree, Dean Kelley believed Jim Steele was the best person to resurrect and grow the Sierra Nevada Field Campus. Together they turned the rustic Sierra Nevada Field Campus into one of California’s leading environmental education centers.

His understanding of climate change evolved as he sought to understand the causes of the declines in local bird populations that he had studied each summer as part of the Sierra Nevada Neotropical Migratory Bird Riparian Habitat Monitoring project. He soon discovered maximum temperatures in the Sierra Nevada had declined since the 30s as observed at the nearby Tahoe City weather station that is part of the US Historical Climate Network.

It became clear that the Sierra Nevada were not overheating despite publications blaming wildlife extinctions on global warming. The most important factors affecting local climate change were the cycles of El Nino and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation as well as landscape changes that had greatly altered the regional microclimates.

Believing the politics of global warming have been misguiding conservation efforts, Jim Steele wrote the book Landscapes & Cycles: An Environmentalist’s Journey to Climate Skepticism. And the lessons learned from his students helped shape his writing style, making the book’s science lessons most enjoyable and easily grasped by all.

Episode-998- Solutions to Some of the Big Problems

Last week I had a great interview with James Howard Kunstler, a man I find interesting yet I also find many places where we disagree.  Many wondered why I allowed some of his comments to go unchallenged, the reality is simple, I don’t bring guests on for debate sparing.  I bring them on to give their view and trust that the audience will distill what they need, as each individual sees fit.

I also have been around long enough to understand that it is a sorry ass weak mind that can’t stand to listen to a differing opinion.  It is an even weaker mind that can’t learn from that opinion, even if it is wrong.  Each individual perceives every problem, event, item, reality etc. from their own point of bias.  If you only see the point of a nail and I only see the head, neither of us really knows what the nail looks like, but together we are much closer to the picture of what the whole is all about.

Join Me Today as I Discuss…

Episode-328 Deception – Disasters – Commonality and Probability

Today we do a bit of a mixed bag and then bring them together in the end.  Today as I broadcast from my home office with better audio I am watching a Texas snow fall so it is logical to talk about global warming for a bit.  The reason I am doing so is as usual when I mention it even in passing I get a lot of “hate mail” calling me things like “holocaust denier”, etc.   I wanted to go on record as the real environmentalist that I actually am, even though I believe man made global warming due to CO2 is a complete scam.

Oh and for those in love with all those “conclusive graphs” that prove global warming.  First a graph proves nothing, it is nothing but a graphical representation of number.  So tune in today and I will explain how to manipulate a graph with out even fudging any of the numbers.  This is a technique used by all sales and marketing people, everyday.  I will also tell you about one thing we have learned from climate gate about how they fix problems with graphs just by “adding to the numbers”.  Deception takes many forms, my goal today is to empower you to spot it, not to tell you what you should believe.

I then shift gears into a discussion about the two part concepts of disaster probability and disaster commonality and how they relate to each other and how those concepts can be used to improve your personal planning.

In the end I explain how these two topics are hugely linked in reality and why understanding deception, dependence and sustainability are so important to not just our physical survival but the survival of our nation and our family unit.
