Episode-2308- How Close is the Original US Government to an Anarchy

It isn’t a trick question, also note I didn’t way it was or even how close it was, I just asked the question.  The answer is a lot closer than you might imagine.  Today we are going to discuss the constitution, the original version and some things most people never learn about, therefore never understand about it.

Given my position as a voluntarist, people often wonder why I even care about the constitution.  I think by the time this episode is over the reasons will be clear.

In short though I view most of our elected officials as thieves, but thieves with a contract that they should at minimum adhere to.  The sad fact is most Americans have zero understanding of that contract, its genesis or their role in it.

Join Me Today to Discuss…

  • Why do I even care since if find the state illegitimate
  • Before we begin lets separate principle from politics of the day
  • Why I claim the federal government is not a party to the contract that is the constitution
  • Why the bill of rights should have never applied to the states individually
  • How incorporation of the bill of rights reduced federalism
  • Why the US is both a democracy and a republic and how little a republic means by itself
  • How the 17th amendment stripped state power and why it should be repealed
  • Why a convention of the states should be called, why it won’t be
  • In the end, so what, why does this matter if nothing is going to change

Episode-1915- Phil Williams on Propaganda, Patriotism and Universal Morality

Phil M. Williams is an author, permaculture consultant, and activist for a stateless society. He is the author of seven books with permaculture and anarchist themes: Farmer Phil’s Permaculture, Fire the Landscaper, Against the Grain, Stone Lake, Cesspool, Initiation, and The Propaganda Project.

In 2008, after a decade as a landscape contractor, Phil sold his business and moved from the McMansion filled suburbs of Northern Virginia to rural Pennsylvania. He spent a couple of years as a mediocre gardener, before finding permaculture.

A few years later, and two completed PDC’s, he became a permaculture consultant. In addition to consulting, he’s spent the past six years developing his six-acre hillside into a permaculture site. His permaculture work can be found at FoodProduction101.com.

Phil is an accidental author. He had been writing in the winter for many years—with no intention of publishing. With the support of his wife, he published his first book, Fire the Landscaper in 2015. With his permaculture site mostly complete, more of his time is now spent writing.

He believes that entertainment is biased in favor of the state. Books, movies, and television often feature government employees as heroes, and anti-government people as the antagonists. With his books, he endeavors to counteract this bias, and show the state as it is.

His new releases can be read for free at PhilWBooks.com.

Episode-1695- Ten Ways to Live Free in an Unfree World

True Words Unless You Moderate Being Right With Both Wisdom and Cleverness

True Words Unless You Moderate Being Right With Both Wisdom and Cleverness

Yep this show is about active anarchy, didn’t put that in the title so it would not immediately shut down people that do not know what real anarchy is.  Anarchy is not spoiled young adult children living in the parents basements, listening thrash music and playing games while wearing a black shirt with an A on it.

Anarchy is not burning down buildings, demonstrating in the streets or being a non conformist by getting the same tattoo 5,000 other people have.  It isn’t hating everyone who is a cop or works for “the system” while you yourself take advantage of the same “system” every day.  It to be blunt isn’t even dominantly a political view, it is more an ethics based view that drives a political philosophy.

The ethics I am talking about are things like the firm belief, that cohesion, theft and force outside of defensive force are wrong, all the time, period the end. We accept that society is currently a bunch of spoiled children not ready to step up and be moral. We also accept that our way won’t be the dominant way in our own lifetimes. Yet for us, living against our ethics is simply not an option.

We think 7-8 generations out; we live accepting the interactive edge we must tolerate with the State.   However, we adapt and we worry first about what we do, how we handle conflict and what positive change we can make before we worry one bit about what anyone else does, says, thinks or doesn’t do.

This show is actually based on an article I will be releasing around the first of the year. I feel that an article will reach many people who don’t normally listen to podcasts.  But I also wanted to share this with you guys before the year ends.  I think many of you will be surprised to learn, you may have been actually practicing anarchy for quite awhile without even knowing it.  In fact many of you are far more real anarchist then people who claim to be anarchists.

Join Me Today to Hear…

  • What is freedom, what does it have to do with anarchy
  • What the real goal of anarchy is
  • What the limitations currently are for anarchists
  • How anarchists must cope with the interactive edge
  • The Ten Ways to Actively be a Modern Anarchist
    • Write contracts that exclude the state
    • Attempt to resolve all differences in absence of the state
    • Create or find a non profit truly consistent with your views
    • Make your own alcohol
    • Avoid using the “states money” when possible
    • Start a business
    • Form a group that gets positive things done
    • Be at least a “basic prepper” and step up when the state falls down
    • Grow your own food
    • Self educate constantly and follow your passions
  • Final Thoughts

Episode-1536- Reclaiming Education in Modern Society

It is 2015 folks, how about we act like it?

It is 2015 folks, how about we act like it?

I say it all the time and I will do so again today, do not confuse education with school.  I also though want to do all I can once again to point out that criticism of our educational system is not “teacher bashing”.

If people could get over the false belief that “teachers are heroes”, perhaps we can make some progress on that?  It is difficult to have a logical conversation when people cling to illogical ideals.

That is what is truly needed at this juncture.  An honest look at the problems with modern education and an acceptance of what can and can’t be fixed.  An acceptance that teaching 6 year old children their ABCs is very noble, but it isn’t heroic.

It is a job and if it can be done better and more efficiently by other means, it should be considered and implemented where it works.  I want to come at it academically today, let us for the sake of arguement say the following is true…

  • The current educational system is an A+ for the needs of 10% of our students
  • It gets a B for the needs of 20%
  • It gets a C for the needs of another 20%
  • It gets a D to an F for the other 50%

Frankly GPAs nation wide alone sort of match this but that isn’t what I mean.   I was a “good student” on paper, graduated in the top 15% of my class, with a little real effort I would have been in the top 10 of students overall, easily, but I didn’t give a shit.  Nothing could have changed that in the current system.  I didn’t care because I knew 80% of what I was tested on would never apply to my life.

Now look you might say the average teenager can’t make that determination, but now as a quite successful person in my 40’s, time has proven that I was correct.   Less than 20% of what I learned in high school, is applicable to my current life and career.

So the above numbers are likely kind to the current system.  Plenty of A and B students are bored to tears in school.   Plenty are also bullied, picked on and ridiculed.  All this while eating state provided lunches that are little better than what prisoners get at Federal Prison.  And if you share your lunch with a fellow student that is hungry, you are punished!

I have to say that while I feel the educational system of the 1980s was flawed and largely a waste of my time, it has only gotten worse over the years.  Things that were encouraged when I was a kid like standing up to bullies, sharing food and helping others are now not only not encouraged they are actively punished.

This is not the fault of the teacher, teachers don’t write policies, hell they barely even write a lesson plan now.  Politicians now largely set policy and write curriculum.  They are themselves victims of the same system.  Want a raise in pay, go take another course in education, get your masters etc.  Seriously how much education does one need to effectively teach 2nd grade?

Not that second graders are not a challenge but that is a lot more of a social skill then an academic one.  The good news though to be blunt is solutions abound.

Join Me Today to Discuss…

  • First lets have an honest discussion about the nature of the problem
    • Schools are a one size fits all solution presented to 50 million children
    • Even if we hit a home run for 50%, we fail the other 50%
    • School doesn’t resemble “real life” at all, so lets be honest about that
    • School is now preparing children for jobs that no longer exist
    • Conformity never leads to innovation
    • Formulaic learning doesn’t create self directed learners
    • Teachers do not have control over what they teach
    • Teachers don’t have control over how fast or slow they advance
    • Teachers want parents teaching obedience, not academics
    • They system punishes both creative students and teachers
    • School is seen mostly as state provided day care
  • The solution?  Stop trying to repair 1880s technology!
    • Create cloud based learning
    • Emulate 1850s teacher, student teaching other students
    • Ignore all rules and only comply with laws when you have to
    • Do not engage in emotional arguments
    • Identify the real opportunities in the coming decades
    • Create inter-generational learning communities
    • Focus on actionable knowledge first
    • Allow individuals to select what they learn about “soft knowledge”
    • Stop feeding the beast
    • Create our own certifications and standards bodies
    • Do everything for a low of a price as possible
    • However recognize the truly talented teachers
    • Get on board, because the train is leaving with or without you
    • Accept that education is about learning, not teaching
    • Accept that almost every problem is solved by removing the state

gojiberryBob Wells Plant of the WeekPhoenix Tears Goji Berry – It is adaptable from zone 5 to zone 9.  Also known as Wolfberry Vine, these sweet and nutritious berries are eaten fresh, juiced or dried like raisins. The berries are a popular medicinal herb. Among the highest in protein and antioxidants, they have more carotene than carrots, and contain all the essential amino acids and many minerals.

Grow this attractive Chinese native on a trellis to more than 10′ tall or trim it as a bush and keep at 4-6′ tall. Light purple, bell shaped flowers bloom in May and continue throughout the summer. The third year and thereafter, flowers are followed by orange-red berries.

The plant is self-fertile, drought resistant, and likes a half to full day of sun and well-drained soil. It prefers warm summer days and cool nights prefers neutral or somewhat alkaline soil.

Our plants are grown from cuttings and a superior cultivar.  Find this plant and more at BobWellsNursery.com – Bob Wells Nursery specializes in anything edible: Fruit trees, Berry Plants, Nut Trees, as well as the hard to find Specialty Trees.

Episode-1533- 12 Guideposts to Lifestyle Design

free-libertySome people say that The Survival Podcast could be called the Homestead Podcast or even The Permaculture Podcast, but I don’t agree.  We talk about a lot more than those topics.  Those are just two tools we use to accomplish the goal of individual liberty.

Today I am giving you 12 guideposts to lifestyle design.  I was going to call them 12 rules but since I am such a fan of breaking rules that seemed incongruent.

Each of us wants things in our life, most of us also want things OUR of our lives.  Survival is just the start, most get into prepping due to perceived dangers about threats to our way of life, but what about our way of life itself.  If we are to preserve it, should we not also seek to make it something worth preserving.

 Join Me Today to Discuss…

  • Know why you believe what you believe
  • Know that you might be wrong
  • Live to never regret that you were not your one true self
  • Know that what you do matters in ways you will never know
  • Know your destination and then chart your course
  • Break rules smartly and effectively
  • Look for opportunities in every obstacle
  • Never confuse education with school
  • Develop income streams independent of employment
  • Stay true to your moral principles but understand reality
  • Realize the only person you control is you, and that is by design
  • Give all you have, leave nothing on the table, make your dash matter

Episode-1531- From Revolution to Insurrection

chains

Yes it may be time for a new theme song, “The Insurrection is You”? Not sure on that in practice but perhaps in principle it is a better way of thinking.

One thing I said in my talk at PermaCulture voices near the end was that, “The time for revolution has past, they had a chance to surrender….A revolution is a transfer in power from one group of leaders to another group of leaders, an insurrection is a transfer of power from those in power into the hands of the insurrectionists themselves, and that is you, take it back, take it all back.”

I am now trying to determine a multi phased attack strategy to do just that, take it all back and a strategy that works with 7th generational thinking.

I look at it this way, no one is going to fix it, no one is going to save us and those in power have no incentive to change things. In other words, “an honest man recognizes a rigged game and seeks his entertainment elsewhere”.
